I went through Navy boot camp in 2002 and nobody was exempt from standing watches.
The watch bill rotates through everyone, so even if you get stuck with watch at 2 in the morning you won't have it again for a while.
The night time watches weren't 4 hours like they are most of the time, they cut them down to 2 hours in consideration of sleep, so it's not that bad.

When you're out in the fleet, they don't cut down the hours and more than likely you'll be stuck on watch longer than 4 hours because some ding dong(i'm willing to bet that you're going to be one of those people)doesn't wake up or refuses to go to the post.

Really, I'm not trying to be mean. I'm telling it like it is: there's no way to get out of watchstanding.
But I want you to understand the point....why should you get to get out of watch while your shipmates pick up your slack?
A major part of Navy life, well military life in general, is about ignoring your needs and instead doing what fits the needs of everyone.

If you're not willing to stand watch, you don't belong in the military.
It's your job. If you join, you're supposed to do your job.
You don't get to pick and choose which jobs you do.
Grow up.
You are selfish.
If you have such problems that you can't function without your 8 hours of sleep, then you don't belong in the Navy.

if you want to always get 8 hours of sleep and never stand watch then dont join the Navy.
Your going to be standing watch at some point even if its not at boot camp so get used to it.

Standing watch is a major part of NAVY life. The barracks Fire and Safey watches are set so that normally nobody pulls more than one night watch a week. Those who are not required to stand watch often find that they have to put in a couple of hours each night after lights out grooming their paperwork.
