okay, i want to join the Army but here is my biggest fear.?

I am worried that I wont get the Security Clearance I need for the MOS I want... or even any of them. What would happen if I had a recruiter guarantee me a slot, and I go of to BCT and then head over to AIT and then my clearance gets denied? i need to know what happens then. Do they give me options or will i have to get out? If the options they give me happen to be crap like "laundry and linen repair" or "cook" do I have the option to leave? Or will I have to choose and stay for 4 years?
If my credit gets better while I am in, say I hang with a mechanic MOS that i hate for a year or two and pay off my debts... would I be able to switch later on, provided it is available?
I know this is a complex question, but it's really the only thing holding me back.

Also, the MOS I want involves completing airborne training... what If i dont make it through that? same thing?

Okay let me try to clear this up starting with the clearance. Your clearance can be bad when you enter the service, just make sure you have a payment plan set up to show that you are working effectively to get rid of your debt (you will be making money during BCT that you can use to steadily pay off your debt). If you you are making progress on reducing your debt, you will get your clearance, you may have an interim for a while, but just keep the finances straight and the security clearance will be no problem (remember, try to start paying off debt now. Consistency beats quantity. Three payments of $100 is better than one payment of $300)
Airborne training sounds worse than it is! Everybody tries to make it out as a super-hooah school, but if you can pass basic, you can pass airborne. Just stay focused!
Now for the bad news; if you fail to stick to your debt payment plan, you will not get a clearance and you will be reclassed to the "needs of the army," which can be whatever they want! (usually not desireable jobs)
Remember, you can have all the debt in the world, just make sure you have a good payment plan. |

Your recruiter can promise you the world but you better get it in writing in your enlistment contract. Even if you do, there's a war on, which means they will put you where they see fit. |

if you have nothing major in your criminal background you will have no problem getting a security clearance at all

NO! You don't get to leave or quit!
If you can't qualify for the MOS that you enlisted for, YOU will be sent where you are needed!
for males it can mean Infantry!
Yes, YOU can end up as a cook or laundry specialist, No joke!
get familiar with the term NEEDS of the ARMY or MILITARY!
You still have your enlistment commitment , however many years it might be - 2, 3, 4, 6 years!
It's doubtful that you can change MOS while in your first enlistment !
Airborne is what we call 'hero" training, If you don't make it, You can reapply later on , if your commands approves it! |

If you do happen to not make it thru Airborne school or AIT. Do not fret. You will be give the option to choose 3 MOS that you would like. And 90% of the time you will get 1 of the 3. |
