your guidance counselor is the retard for saying such a stupid thing!!! |

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Statements like the one your councilor made are usually made by people that couldn't hack it in the military.
By the way - how did the job opportunity as a fire fighter in Oak Brook pan out? Did you finally beat your step-brother at chess to get out of the house? |

I served for 10 years in the United States Navy as a weapons electronics technician. Those skills gave me an edge in the communications electronics field when I applied for my first job. Now, ten years later, I am the CIO (Chief Information Officer) and one of the equity owners of a private statewide communications network and I have those "retards" in the military to thank for my executive position. Perhaps someone should send your guidance counselor a memo :) |

Well, then I guess people like John F. Kennedy (President - US Navy), Lee Marvin (Hollywood actor - US Marines), Montel Jordan (Talk show host - US Navy), Brian Kelso (former NFL star for the Buffalo Bills - US Army), Chuck Norris (Hollywood actor - US Air Force) and Shaggy (rapper - US Marines) are retards...
I served in the US Army for 15 years as both a logistics specialist (Army MOS 92Y) and as a Military Policeman (Army MOS 31B); I can assure you that the men and women I served alongside are the most highly trained, highly motivated and most dedicated warriors I've ever had the honor of serving with.
In my opinion, the only retard in that conversation is your guidance counselor; if you so desire to join the military, be aware that military service will inevitably involve serving in a combat zone; however, there are more than half a million servicemen and women, serving in five branches of the Armed Services (in both active, reserve and national guard status) all over the world; commanding everything from large nuclear-powered supercarriers with thousands of sailors aboard; to multi million dollar aircraft like the F-22 Raptor and even the Space Shuttle.
Seriously, being a soldier, marine, airman or sailor requires a lot of knowledge and skill and it certainly is not a job for "retards". If you are curious about becoming a member of our Armed Forces, go to a recruiting station and talk to a recruiter or go to your nearest VFW or American Legion Hall and talk to the veterans; they can give you more insight than a paid guidance counselor ever could. |

Your Guidance counselor can't make the decision of what you are going to do for the next stage of your life, you are. For some it will be joining the military because they feel it is the best chance they have to gain education and skills that can further them later. They also are willing to risk their lives to protect the freedom of others. Others it isn't the best instead going to college or getting a job is what they should do. The GC right now while he/she isn't doing the best job may also be concerned that you will go off to war so is trying the scare tatic. You are the one that has to make the decision.
Just remember that yes when you go into the military you can go into areas where you can die, but you have a greater chance of being in a car accident 10 feet from your house and dying there. |

hahahah!! his wife probably left him for a soldier or he's got some sort of agenda towards the military. Erudite #2's reply is not accurate but then again those who never have, will simply lift their finger and point because that's all they can do. I've been in for 8 years, and i have voluntarily deployed. I'm on my 4th deployment right now but because it was my choice. Joining the Army doesn't necessarily mean you're going to Iraq. It all depends on the job you choose. Make sure you pick one that could have a positive impact on your long term career civilian wise. Also look into the other branches if the Army doesn't provide what you're looking for...... one thing for me is sure, Being a coward is not a legitimate career.... oh and I'm a veterinary technician for the Army, which puts a nice bachelors degree in my hands when i become a civilian (with free Army tuition assistance) and it was all free.... ask your guidance counselor how much he owes or owed on school bills and etc.etc..when he was done.. hahahahah!!!! yeah who's the retard? |

wooow.
i wish i could have traded out my husbands plane ticket for iraq to give it to this person and let my "retard" stay home.
My husband is in the army and he is FAR from any kind of stupid. Half of the things he talks about..its way over my head. Theres no way i could ever join because i dont have half the mental capabilities my husband does.
so let your guidance counsler know that the next time she/he wants to talk crap about the army...they can say it to me. ill let them know that they are misled.
Erudite #2 or whatever his name is....
pretty sure hes the retard. before you go and say things about the army you dont even know about..maybe you should check your facts. we have a great life in the army. we didnt have money or jobs or anything to look forward to in life until my husband joined the army. they take GREAT care of us here. My husband is in Iraq and he gets fed better there than he did here at home! and he has a warm place to lay his head at night with a bed and a pillow. Thats all i can ask for.
So again. before you start talking crap-CHECK YOUR FACTS. |

you live your life not him, if this is something you really want to do...years on down the road if you hadnt done it and you look back do you really want to see that the thing that stood inbetween you and joining was some silly, immature words your cousuler had to say to you...
i bet he wouldnt think it was so retarded if we didnt have freedom and people fighting for it. |
|

?

I'd just tell him the truth in response to that. Guidance counselors are cowards who lack the conviction to fight for what they believe in. By the way, the correct term would be mentally handicapped, you might want to remind him that they teach you that in college these days. |

your guidance counselor is free to make such statements because of those "retards".I for one was in the army for 17 years and loved it. |

The military is basically a small population of the general U.S. population. Are there stupid people in the Army? Yes, there are stupid people in the army, just as there are stupid people in the civilian work force. But I would definitely argue that the people in the armed forces are definitely more well trained and well educated than their general civilian counterpart. The Army offers almost unlimited opportunities for education and self improvement. It has given so many people the chance to attain high education otherwise impossible. I wonder if your guidance counselor ever served in the Army? |

You might want to check the actual stat's on degrees held by those in the military, etc and then talk to your counselor -- this is obviously a biased statement. |

Your guidance counselor is the retard,,, Talk to ALL of the recruiters,, and a ROTC program and your local university,,, you just might want to be an officer in one of those retarded branches of service,, also I would report her to the principal,, that is not sound advise to be giving to students,, and I am sure it breach some sort of code of conduct with the school district.. |

Your counselor is a coward. The most basic job in the Army, Infantry, has the most intelligent people I've ever met.
The Army, or any branch, is for Patriots who want to give to their country.
The decision to enlist is entirely yours. Military service will help you to find your calling in life. You will have many experiences (some good, some bad) that you would never have in civilian life. You will belong to a lifelong brother(sister)hood. Sure, you might get hurt or even die. But that can happen heading down to the quickie mart for a bag of chips.
Erudite #2 is an enemy of the nation. |

Which army? There are dozens of armies around the world and I'm sure your counselor was right about a few of them such as the Taliban army. The U.S. military officers all have at least four-year degrees and offers money for the enlisted to get at least a degree. |

Umm, interesting question. And, the answer is he is very, ambiguously, correct. Now Army guys, don't get mad at me for this, but you will have to agree when I am through. First things first, our Army is full of very capable and highly intelligent people. We have the best equipped, strongest and most capable Army that this world has ever seen, and I love serving along side them.
Now, with that out of the way, here it is. No, the Army is not for retards. But, the Army does have the lowest entrance requirements as far as education is concerned. You can get in the Army with a GED, most other branches you can't. You can get into the Army with the lowest ASVAB score, where with the other branches, the minimum score is much higher. Does this mean it is for retards, absolutely not. I am sure that if you are retarded, you will most certainly be denied entrance into the Army, as with the other branches. Now as for the low scores allowed, they come with a price. That price is that you will only be allowed to have the most menial and least challenging MOS's that are to offer. Bottom line, the Army is huge, and they need people to clean their toilets too. Don't do well in school, drop out, join the Army, clean the sh*tters.
Army dogs, sorry, but you know it's true. Doesn't make you any less badass.

Your guidance counselor is an idiot, or better yet a retard. If you want to persue a career in the Army go for it. I've been in for 7 years now and by no means and I a retard. It has given me lots of experience to help me in the civilian world and I've traveled EVERYWHERE! You need a new guidance counselor becaue this one you have obviously is a moron. |

"Retards" might not be the correct word. "Unsavvy" or "politically unaware" are more accurate terms. Major General Smedley Butler explains why in this excerpt from War is a Racket.
--------------------------------
War is a Racket
By Smedley Butler
War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the many.
I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.
I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents. |
