I'm 27 yrs old, have a diploma, am in perfect health and aced the asvab. Aside from one charge of drug parephenailia-which was dismissed-I have no criminal, nor traffic record. Initially I was told that if the charge was dismissed I was a shoein considering my test score yet when all was said and done the mere fact that I was CHARGED was enough to deny me! We are talking about something that happened over 4yrs prior on my bithday sadly enough....I can understand the recruiters point of view when he says there is no waiver for ANY kind of drug offense however, to me it seems more than slightly unfair when I was forthcoming about the charge, where it happened, when it happened and still they put me through the steps to join! Why make the effort if the end result was a no regardless? To make it worse.....had I lied and not divulged this information, my backround check would have rendered no such charge. I know this for a fact because the initial check through the sherriffs office yielded nothing! If anyone knows a way around this id be more than appreciative!! It hurts when someone who has never talked to you, seen you, or even know you existed can take your ambition of serving your country down to a grinding halt over something as trivial as possession of paraphenalia!
