You may shovel snow out of the way. If just a light dusting, a broom may work.
Also you may use salt on the ice. Salt melts ice. You might not have enough on hand at home to make much of a difference, however. Usually you buy 20+ pound bags of rock salt for such purposes.
Sand may also help. You can spread the sand over ice or snow, it will help get some traction. Salt is better, though. |

TheYaktrax Walker is available online at www.besafeplus.com and www.besafeplus.net is designed for people who are looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight traction device for their shoes. The Walker is the original version of Yaktrax and is ideal for pedestrians, the elderly, business people or anyone who want greater stability on ice and snow. Use the Yaktrax Walker while walking to and from work, school or just to the mailbox.
The Walker is made out of an injection molded thermal plastic elastomer designed for easy on and off. The coils are protected against rusting and hand-wound to give you 360 degrees of traction on ice and snow. When you walk in the Yaktrax Walker, every step you take places hundreds of biting edges in direct contact with the ice beneath your feet. Yaktrax can be worn in temperatures as low as -41 degrees farenheit.
The patented design of the Walker makes it a unique solution to walking on packed snow and ice. The outerband conforms to the length and width of your boot or shoe. The high strength horizontal coils provide forward and backward stability. The vertical coil pattern provide side-to-side stability.
Recently tested by hundreds of winter enthusiasts, the Walker has been approved and recommended by the National Health & Wellness Club and the Handyman Club of America.
Also , if you are more active, look into the Yaktrax Pro also available at www.BeSafePlus.com and www.BeSafePlus.net The Yaktrax Pro is equipped with a removable performance strap that was designed for stability. The Pro still has the same simple design and effectiveness as the Walker with the unique 360 degrees of traction with every step you take. When you walk or run with the Yaktrax Pro, every step you take places hundreds of biting edges in direct contact with the ice beneath your feet.
You will move about naturally with the Pro. There's nothing new to learn, just walk as you normally would and experience stability on ice and snow like you never felt before. |

Would you happen to have a cane or crutches? That should help to steady you. I have a walking stick to use in such weather. |

Emily- I am assuming you don't have much experience with ice and snow.
The best thing to do is walk very slowly, with very small steps. Walk like you are 90 years old, with a slight hunch in your back. This is the best way to keep your balance.
If you try to walk in icy conditions you would normally, you are going to fall. Also, dont wear heels or any sort of fancy shoe with no tread. If nothing else, wear tennis shoes since they have a certain amount of of tread.
If you do start to fall, try to keep your head up and your chin tucked. Good luck. |
