I have kids so I am pretty prepared.
I have in my car:
3 blankets
2 snow suits, gloves, boots (for the kids)
Goldfish crackers
pillow
books, toys, (again for the kids but when your bored)
CD's (for entertainment)
a bottle of water but then I could get some snow and let that melt.
I think I'd be good for 24 hrs. |

I always take extra clothes and or a blanket with me. Food and water is another good item. A tank full of gas is another good idea so you can run the motor whenever you want. |

i think nowadays the cellphone is the untimate nessecasy item because even if you dont have signal u cal dial sos but then again your phone died, you have a charger in your car, along with that ploand spring water bottle the cell phone is all you need and a cozy blanket. |

My best advice is to always have a full tank of gas and a cell phone. Full tank of gas means you can let your car run to keep you warm. Cell phone call for help so you don't have to be there for a day. But as far as if you're definitely stuck... keep water and blankies. I always have food in my car - cuz I'm hungry 24/7. |

A food that will release a lot of energy over time, Some water to drink, Something to keep you warm enough that you don't get an illness, Maybe something that will let you get in contact with somebody like a mobile phone of hand held computer |

you are actually supposed to keep a yellow or bright rag of some type in your car... then get out and put it on your antenna... there fore the cops could see it and come rescue you |

This has never happened to me before, but I imagine that blankets, candles, and food would be more than enough to keep me alive for a day in a blizzard. |

Yes, I keep all kinds of stuff in the trunk.
Candle, coffee can
Bottled water
flares
blanket
aluminum foil
powerbars
matches
newspapers
You can burn stuff in the coffee can to keep warm. But you have to have adequate ventilation! |

In Sweden it is important to keep warm if your car died. Always keep matches in your car and a colored candlestick so if you drop it in the snow you can find it. Jump on the top of your roof to bend it down and then rip a seat cushion out. Put the cushion on the dent and light it on fire, this should heat up the car, you can also burn tires, it wont smell pretty but it works. Also keep peanutbutter in your car, it doesnt get old for a very long time so you can eat that. For water, you can drink melted snow. |

Haha, my car is like a second home. You are going to laugh but here is what I have in my car:
Flash light and xtra batteries
4 bottles of water
wool blanket
6 power bars
jumper cables
hand sanitizer
lip balm
icey hot
hand warmer packs (crack and they heat for 12 hours)
Call me a freak - but I like to be prepared.
I think I would servive a blizzard and then some!

ALWAYS keep a candle and some matches. Sounds weird but this will provide you with enough basic warmth to save your life. I also keep some gloves, blanket, flares, cell phone with charger and some granola bars. |

you would HAVE to keep your heat on. have to, if you didnt you would probably freeze to death. In the odd event ur heat does not work, you NEED to have emergency supply thick blankets and possibly warm sweaters and apparel. You'd need water, but probably try to do something like keep shaking it to keep it from freezing. a flashlight, and a cell phone. matches too if you'd have to burn something for a fire in case of an emergency. maybe some things to keep ur time like books and cds if it had lasted a while. How about those handwarmer things too. cuz theyre activated by air and stay really hot and warm for a while.
like the other answer said DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR. Remember tat story from last winter where a car got stranded in a blizzard for a couple of days. and it was a family. the father left the car trying to find help. the family ended up surviving and he died in the forest somewhere trying to find a way out and get some help, dying from hypothermia and the cold caused him to become disoriented and confused. It's easier for you to be found in your car as it is bigger and sometimes can be tracked if you have on star, etc.
also, very important DONT EAT THE SNOW STRAIGHT FROM THE GROUND FOR WATER. the MAIN problem is it will only further lower your body temperature very rapidly. having a black thermostate/bottle absorbs heat from the sun and it will melt the snow so tat u can drink it. black absorbs light, white reflects it. |
