It IS required by law to stop at a red traffic light.
Well. If you slammed on the brakes and crashed into someone, at least you'll probably be at 45 mph instead of 85+ which would obviously have less damage.
And if you're traveling at 85 you're probably going to lose control if you keep accelerating since you're probably going to be maneuvering past cross traffic.
Furthermore you shouldn't be doing 85 in a 55 zone! |

When is the last time anyone has ever seen a red light in a 55mph zone?
Perhaps in the same place where people think they're too clever for common sense. LOL. This question is a joke of itself and the person who raised it. |

you just like to start stuff don't you either that or your not driving at all.Lol. and if you are driving may God be with you |

might i recommend the polls and surveys section on Y!A. It is in the Entertainment & Music category. I think you would fit in there quite nicely. |

hmmm.. well from all my tickets (105 in 65) i never got one from a stop light. probably the safest time to run them will have to be at night. Also some people treat stop lights as stop signs. but then again, you would run through those too... i hope we never meet at an intersection :P |

Well I never stop at red lights, so I suppose I'm really the wrong person to ask.
That cop pulled me over that one time for going 90 in a 65... made me so damned mad. |

it would probably be a good idea not to go 85 in a 55 in the first place. but it would be good to stop, if there is another car and you hit going that fast you or the other person are most likely going to be killed |

Do you seriously think that breaking one law gives you the right to break others? Part of the reason we have speed limits is so that you have time to stop when you see a stop sign or other obstacle. |

There usually aren't any red lights in 55 mph zones. It's fairly dangerous. |

Really?? you shouldn't be driving that fast in the first place - that's what the speed limit is for - then you wouldn't have to worry about whether you should stop at a stoplight or not. |

Of course it's required. Everyone is required to follow the laws. |

It sound perfectly reasonable to me.

you are the reason why certain people should not have children.. how the hell can going through a red light at 30 over be a good idea? seriously? you honestly believe this to be a good idea? then when you die doing so, it will be considered a work of darwin.. survival of the fittest and you my friend are not the fittest. |

Well there is this thing called a yellow light that warns you to slow down before a red light comes up, so if the yellow light doesn't give you enough of a warning to stop, then you are going entirely too fast |
|

First of all, if you are doing 85 in a 55 mph zone, then you are considered driving reckless. The fact is, you are going 30 over the limit which is an offense that is likely to bring a heavy fine as a result and your license will be revoked. Also there is the issue of you causing an accident to yourself or someone else driving at such a high speed. When you are going that fast you will likely lose control of your vehicle. Your argument doesn't have any grounds because you shouldn't be traveling so fast. As far as red lights, well you just proved the point of going so fast is likely to get you or someone else killed. What is to stop you from going through a red light at such a high speed? Most likely you won't stop and if you do like you said, you would cause an accident. Bottom line? Don't break the law by speeding above the limit. |

You wanna die and take someone with you right? Hope not to come across you on the road. |

nope not required. its just so that the cops watching can figure out who the fun guys and gals would be to date..
omg i just LOVE how rez said "safety first and all that" after what he said LMAO |

You think it would be better to slam into a car at 85 miles an hour than stomp on your brakes? Consider this the other cars on the road are likely not going 85 as well on the 55MPH road,so it is likely that they would have more than enough time to stop behind you because it would take you more time than them to stop. But yes stop lights are REQUIRED. |
|

|
In all areas I know of, it is required to stop at a red light. However, if you can push your car to 88 MPH after installing a flux capacitor, you may be able to time travel around the light. |
|

Rez
|
Silly, there aren't any red lights in 55mph zones.
You must mean a 25mph zone.
Any cars coming in the other directions (I assume you mean a 4way intersection) would be going so slow that even if they hit you they'd just bounce off.
Don't forget to wear your seatbelt, safety first and all that. |

lmao I love how many idiots actually think this is a serious question, the world's stupidity never ceases to amaze me. |

85 is far too slow to be crossing an intersection that you have the red-light on. I suggest at least 100, the faster you get through there the less likely there is to have a fatal accident.
Godspeed. |

Seriously? 85 in a 55 zone? I think you should be more worried about losing your license over reckless driving. Someone I know almost died in an accident, they always drove like that. When he crashed, it was a week after driving me and some friends around...doing exactly what you're describing. Slow down please.

What about oncoming traffic? Are you not afraid to be t-boned or be killed?
First of all, you shouldn't be doing 85 on a 55mph zone and secondly, you MUST always stop at RED light.
You only live once, don't gamble with it, and don't gamble with other people's lifes. |

If you don't get pulled over, it's a moot point what the requirement is. If you DO get pulled over, I thought it might be of help to point out a few things of what NOT to say to a cop:
* I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.
* Sorry officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
* You're not going to check the trunk, are you?
* Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.
* What do you mean have I been drinking? You are the trained specialist.
* Well, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell off of my lap and got lodged between the brake and the gas pedal, forcing me to speed out of control.
* Hey, is that a 9mm? That's nothing compared to this 44 magnum.
* Hey, can you give me another one of those full cavity searches?
* No, YOU assume the position.
* I'm surprised you stopped me, Dunkin Donuts has a 3 for 1 special!
* If I bend over, will I still get a ticket?
* No, offi, offic, lucifer . . . I'm not as think you are drunk I am. I swear to dog.
* No, I don't know how fast I was going. The little needle stops at 110 mph.
* Want to race to the station, Sparky?
* Hey officer is that your nightstick, or are you just glad to see me? |

And for goodness sakes don't slow down for railroad crossings, either. At the speed you travel you should be able to just bust right through the barriers. |

Nahhh dont stress over it. The 55mph is simply a suggest of how fast the cops *think* you should be driving anyway. As for red lights....that depends on how far away you are. If your really really close then dont worry about it, just blow right through them. If you are more than a block away I think you would have time to stop without doing any damage.
UNLESS there is a police officer around, at which point I would suggest flooring it and getting out of sight quick. |
