Find answers to your legal question.

Do we have to buy our foster kid a birthday present? Or have a party?

Our foster kid turns 9 next week and she keeps telling us stuff she wants for her birthday. Also she keeps asking for a party.I thought you didn't have to give foster kids this stuff? We buy her clothes and food and all seriously how much money do they think we should spend on her?

Hiya!
Are you a troll??

You have to treat her like a human being if you really adore her get her a present.

Lady Rowan
Can't be a serious question.

I can't tell if you are a troll, sociopath or someone who has been in foster care. Your question can not be for real.

Sammy Gabbie LOVE raw meat!
You should treat her like she was your very own, end of story. However, in the cases of trolls, like I suspect you are, just throw her a troll party.

PLEASE tell me this is a joke! Our foster children got the same as ANY child should have. Birthday presents and parties...christmas presents...the I think you are neat types of gifts etc. This is the worst question ever.

Got Jesus?
Wow, you sound a bit hostile. You should be treating this child just like you would your own. She's going to be 9, throw her a birthday party! Wouldn't you throw your own 9 year old one? Geez. Just set limitations. Get her a cake, balloons, buy her a present, and invite her friends over. You don't need to have CLOWS, and farm animals, and leprechaun's there!

Go ask that question to your social worker. Bet they are removed ASAP. Plus, you get money for fostering them. But anyway you keep asking questions like this so I hope your just joking and getting your jollies.

Please tell me you're a troll, if you have to ask this question you should not be a foster parent.

Tonia
I hope this is not a real qustion... ofcourse you should get her a gift! And why not have a little arty for her?

Banana Girl
well you should buy her a gift and throw a small party to make her feel better. Let her have a good time because she's just a kid.

Wow, I know people like you exist, because I was a foster child. Any Christmas present I got, stayed with the family when I left. It was a "loan", not a gift. All the beatings I got were free, however, and I was able to take those scars with me. Thank you for believing I was an automaton, a slave, a reject, a throw away. Thanks for the cruel words, and abuse. After all, my own parents didn't want me, why would you? Honestly, I must have deserved all the inhumane treatment, right?

How insensitive can you get! Really, its disgusting.

Finally 21!
why do people ask questions like this? i really hope you are some stupid 13 year old with no life making up stupid questions.

Neil
Get outof the foster "business" right away. It shouldn't be a business.

Mom to Foster Children
Everyone welcome the newest troll Ben O

While this is an obvious troll question I'll still take the opportunity to educate you a bit. Perhaps it will get through the ignorance.

Foster children are humans and they have feelings. During a time of upheaval such as their being in foster care it is even more important for them to feel wanted and appreciated, especially at a time such as their birthday.

Do you "have to spend money on the kid"? Of course not. Nobody HAS to do anything of the sort for anyone. Is it the decent and compassionate thing to do though? I'd say it is for everyone but you from the sounds of it.

And don't worry about the money. Foster parents, at least in my area and many others, have amounts for Christmas and birthday gifts factored into the monthly stipend they receive. Troll question or not, you are paying for gifts for foster children either way. Either through the money you receive for the child in you, um, care or through the tax dollars you pay.

No parent has to give their kids anything. Every parent should give children love, and part of loving kids is helping them have a normal life, with normal things going on, like birthday parties.

As for the money you should spend on her, it's every penny that the state gives you to keep her, plus part of your own money. Kids are not to make money off of, but an extreme honor to be blessed with them in our homes.

I pray you aren't serious with this question. If I knew of any foster parent who was so stupid that they had to ask this question, I'd report them for child abuse in a heartbeat.

And, by the way, buy her something nice, and fun, not just needed. Make it small enough to pack in a suitcase, and I hope that sometime very soon, she goes to a better home than yours.

Cambria
I really hope you are a troll. If not, you are an absolutely despicable human being.

straycat
The BEST Birthday present YOU can give her is to call Social Services and tell them to come and pick her up!
Enough is Enough and you are just TOO much!

LinnyG
Of course not. Foster kids and adoptees dont expect presents, we're just grateful you took us in. Besides, we hate our birthdays. Geesh.
