What? Why on earth would someone hate adoption? |
|

Stop the Hate Love instead
|
Its so horrible that she and her spouse are providing a home to a baby that otherwise would probably grow up in an orphanage. The child they are adopting is special needs what her condition is they did not say. This lady also has an adopted sister who is Korean. So this baby will have a family member who is from her native land. Having a Korean sister is a big reason she wanted to adopt from there it has nothing to do with her trying to get in the headlines or be trendy this is clearly something she would have done even if she was not a celebrity as long as she could afford it. She and her spouse filled out tons and tons of paperwork so I am sure they had to do a home study. Their adoption has been faster because they are taking a special needs baby |

I think its fine, but more people should look to their own areas and help those children as well. I'm just surprised she was able to adopt from Korea. |

I didn't know she was adopting - good for her!
I love her acting...just don't like any actor who pushes their politics and personal viewpoints too much. |

I think adoption is a good way of giving somebody a chance for a better future, and one that, will most likely, be filled with lots of love. |

I don't know why you're referring to the Yahoo! community by "You" cause not everyone hates adoption; most people in this section are probably for it. |

I completely support her idea for adoption. Though, there are a lot of American children who could be adopted, just the idea of her adopting a child already born, and not adding to the overpopulation of the world, I'm all for it! :) |

I think it's great. The little girl is special needs as well. I am amazed by people who can do that. I wish them the best! |

why does she not have a special needs child of her own? |

I think it's great. Especially the child being a special needs child. Not everyone is cut out to handle that.
I think you can tell by the responses who is for all types of adoptions and who thinks only foster care is the way to adopt. I guess by their way of thinking baby's that need homes have to wait till their older so they can come from foster care, and the children from other countries should just stay in their crappy orphanages. Sure glad I'm not that narrow minded |

If she's going to provide a loving and safe home for the girl, I don't see a problem. |

I don't hate her but I have a lot less respect for her than I used to after reading the article about her on Yahoo. She sounds like a moron.
"She was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign. I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life."
*Right. Because this is all about HER.
"She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible," Heigl said. "Which is why I wanted to tell everybody, so you don't think I stole a Korean baby."
*Stole? Wow. Sounds like she's already feeling like she has to justify this adoption. Feeling a little defensive, Katherine? There's a reason for that. |

Never cared for her much. Funny actress but whines a lot.
Adopting from Korea isn't difficult and it's very trendy for celebrities to do so isn't it? I wonder if she had to do a homestudy. I really do.
P.S. We're not against adoption...we're against you being rude and cruel in the adoption section.
EDIT: Thumbs Up to CP: How much time has she already booked AWAY from being a mom. Please! I can't believe I'm about to say this but...at least Angelina SEEMS to have put her life to good use on top of being there for the kids. |

No, why would i? And not everybody on here hates all types of adoption. That is a bold face lie. What I do hate is people like you who say i must hate my birth mother, because she gave me up for adoption. I don't have to hate her, she made a choice, one that i didn't understand for the longest time, but it was a choice. I don't hate her, because without her, i wouldn't be here, with out her making a choice, i would never of meet my adoptive parents. Why people have to choose sides. |

She's adopting a 10 mos old Special Needs girl from Korea-and I think it's great. She said her SISTER was adopted as well.
And no I dont hate her-I really hope she takes the time to look after the baby though. Celebrities tend to go working loads very soon after the baby's born and go touring and what not... So I do hope she stays home and looks after her newly adopted daughter. |

I've enjoyed her performances on Grey's Anatomy, and she seems like a decent human being. I have a lot of respect for her for speaking up for her co-star when he was the target of homophobia by another actor on the show.
I hadn't heard before this that she planned to adopt, and I don't know her philosophies about adoption or parenting, so I don't really have an opinion. I hope that she and her partner will recognize that their child will be going through a tough transition, and that they will be available and supportive to their little one for the process of attachment.
I certainly don't hate her, but I do hope that the family has put a lot of thought and research into this, and understand the needs that their daughter will have.
Side note: I really, deeply wish that more celebrities would consider foster care adoption. Maybe that would help "regular" people see that it's a viable option for families. But I don't specifically blame Heigl (or any other individual) for not doing so. I just wish that it was considered more in general. |

Clearly you have way more interest in what the newest fashion statement among the Hollywood celebs is than I do. I have many more important things to concern myself with, like what shall I fix for dinner, who turned out the lights last, which direction should the toilet paper roll from, paper or plastic...the list is endless! |

Personally, I find her to be whiny and self-centered and really not that great an actress.
That opinion aside, I do know that there is a marriage requirement for adopting couples of 3 years and she hasn't been married 2 yet. She also did not have a long wait time -- 6 months from application date till the child came home. That doesn't typically happen even with a special needs child. So I have to wonder what kind of special treatment she may have received?
Also, she’s taking some time off from Grey’s to shoot a movie, then going back to shooting the show. How is she going to shoot a movie/show and take care of a special needs child?
I am at least a little heartened that she is possibly familiar with adoption issues since she has a sister who is adopted, from Korea no less. And it’s not like she can raise the child “as if born to” since the child will clearly not look like her or her husband. |

I think Hate is a rather strong word for it. I do not approve of what she is doing and never will. I do not care a bout her enough to hate her but I don't like her very much. I don't think she can act and she annoys me. Her adopting just adds to the reason I don't like her.
Why does it matter so much to you who other people hate? I really think you should seek some therapy for your obsessive issues. Maybe try some yoga |

I don't know who Katherine Heigl so I can't comment. How can I hate somebody I don't know or what her motives are for adopting?
I have more of a problem with you as you are rude and nasty towards people when you don't believe or agree with their opinions, feelings and you diregard the truth when you don't agree with it. |

I hated her long before that, with a passion strong enough that no matter what she does or doesn't do, I can't hate her any more. |

Who is Katherine Heigl?
ETA: Oh, she's one of the Grey's chicks. I did watch that for a season, but frankly, names have never been all that important to me since I had mine changed on a regular basis during infancy.
Just another pretty face doing the trendy thing, I suppose. I really couldn't care less about her. It's hard to hate someone you don't care about. |

I don't hate anyone. Hate is dumb and really only affects the person doing the hating.
But I dislike international adoption and have a right to feel that way since I'm actually a Korean adoptee. I know how hard it is to be raised by a white family where there is no one that mirrors your looks or culture. To this day I still struggle with identity issues and with reconciling my natural heritage with the one I've grown up in.
I also happen to know first hand how shady Korean adoptions are. Yeah, they APPEAR to be sticking to Hague conventions, but they are not. The "sister" agencies that operate in Korea operate in secrets, lies, and misgivings. Children's names and ages have been doctored so their natural families can no longer find them. Adoptive parents are given bold faced lies about their children's origin.
In the article at people.com, Katherine Heigl says one of the reasons they are adopting is because they are too busy otherwise to be parents and are "fitting in" adoption stuff. Children, especially adoptees, need more than money. They need the presence of parents. I can't understand or support someone adopting a child to be an absentee parent.
Celebrities are notorious for adopting because it is trendy, they are too busy for pregnancy, or don't want to ruin their perfect bodies. I dislike all of these reasons and do not resepct her one bit for going to Korea and buying a child.
Even Korea recognizes that they should not be sending their children away with entitled people who have money. They are closing IA in 2012 which really couldn't come fast enough for me. |

Well, I wasn't a Katherine Heigl fan anyway, but I do think she is a great person for choosing to save a little girl and offer her the life she deserves. I don't know why so many bitter people hang out in this section, they should be on their therapist's couch. The majority of people realize that adoption is a wonderful choice to give deserving parents the opportunity to raise children that need homes.
