If a teenager doesn't have enough responsibility to use birth control, how do they have enough to raise a kid?

If a teenager doesn't have enough responsibility to use birth control, how do they have enough to raise a kid?
|
I mean logically-if they were mature enough to raise a kid, wouldn't they have been mature enough to avoid the situation in the first place? Additional Details I didn't say I've never made a mistake. I've surely never put myself in a position to get pregnant, though. I happen to use that "fairy tale" called abstinence. The word no just so happens to be in MY vocabulary. And condoms ARE widely available, and nearly ARE free. Two words- PLANNED PARENTHOOD. And how can you say it's "one mistake?" There IS something called the morning after pill

They don't. We see the product of irresponsible teens raising babies all the time. Everyone nowadays is all about "oh, it's ok if you're only 13, you're the best person to raise your child" but it's a right shame for those poor kids.
I've been involved with social services in the past, and left as I was absolutely disgusted at the way a woman opens her legs continually to breed children she is completely unwilling and unable to be responsible for, yet gets called a saint. THose poor kids never stand a chance.
Good on you for asking a brave question! |

There are mature responsible teens who get pregnant. It could be a mistake and the condom broke and the pill failed, rare but it could happen. Then they would put the baby up for adoption. If it really was a mistake and you didn't mean to get pregnant, you would not want to keep the baby. All these teen moms that are like oh oops, I don't buy it. They wanted to be a mom and they weren't mature enough to wait so good luck with that whole situation. Immature, uneducated, impoverished and self-centered - now there's the start of a good parent. |

There is no guarantee.
But in a free society, you do not punish people for what they "might" do.
You cannot take a child away from a teenage parent because they "might" abuse or neglect them. |

Teenagers having kids is rarely a matter of mature and responsible choices. |

So what about adults who slip up on their BC? Should we take their kids too?
What about a married couple that had a mistake? Should we take that kid too? Clearly they aren't mature enough to handle children.
What about people with parking tickets? If they aren't mature enough to figure out how to properly park their car how can we trust them with children?
What about someone who misplaces their keys? I mean, how are we to know that they won't misplace their baby?!?!? Let's take that kid too.
I hope it is clear right now that I think your question is absolutely ridiculous, but just in case you haven't been able to figure it out:
This is a stupid question.
Hope that cleared it up for you. |

Hi Crazychick. I notice you changed your name once someone pointed out that it fit you so well.
Believe it or not, there are some teens who actually WANT to start a family. While we may deem THAT irresponsible, too, I'd just like to point out that the vast majority of teens in that situation will do whatever it takes to be good parents. If they want children that badly, that soon, they will have to work extra hard, if for no other reason than the fact that there are people like you who think there is some magical age where they will suddenly become good parents - and the "logical" conclusion of that thinking is that someone their age can't possibly be a decent parent. Teen parents have to work twice as hard at parenting to be considered - by society in general - to be half as good at parenting as anyone else.
Another thing to consider is that, at the time a woman becomes pregnant, she is a vastly different person than she is 9 months later. Pregnancy is not just carrying a child in your stomach. It's this wonderful, natural process that prepares you - body, mind, and soul - to care for the little person who comes out. It doesn't really matter what age the mother is. Everyone gets the same perks, free of charge. |

Yeah, kinda like Sarah Palin and her accidental pregnancy at middle-age. Did you know middle-aged women have a very high rate of unplanned pregnancies and abortions? |

just cause you have a baby when you are a teenager dose not mean you are a baby mother. i had my daughter when i was 15 i didn't plan it but it happened i took responsibility and took care of her! she was a healthy and very well taking care of! my mom did not take care of her for me i did it all by my self and i graduated high school and went to college i will be going back soon. not every one want to take the morning after pill! why do you care what other ppl are doing worry about your self maybe you are just mad cause a guy never wanted to be with you. grow up and stop being so judgmental! my daughter is 7 years old and i am a good mother who loves her daughter very much i have never done drugs or any thing! for being 18 you are pretty immature!! at that age i had a 3 year old and was very mature!! |

Oh, well, pardon me. Good thing you've NEVER made a mistake, right? Not ever? Not even one time, because that's all it takes to get pregnant.
Oh yeah, also, maybe you should discuss so-called "abstinence education" with school administrators. And make barrier methods, such as condoms, free and widely available. Etc., etc., etc.,
Let he amongst you without sin...
ETA: Sorry, but abstinence is not a realistic goal. Great, you're abstinent? Fantastic. In fact, I think we're ALL relieved to hear that. However, the truth is mistakes happen. Like I said, it only takes once. |

Married ladies on birth control often have unplanned preganancies. Using birth control is no guarantee of preventing pregnancy
You're abstinent to prevent pregnancy - great (but confusing 'cos you said previously that you were infertile and wanted your Mom to carry a baby for you LOL) |

Jeez - you're not "abstinent", sweetheart. You're smug, overbearing and obnoxious as hell, which is a real turn-off, and that's why pregnancy is not going to be a problem for YOU for a long, long time, unless you learn some compassion for other people's situations and a desire to truly help instead of judge. |

Maybe if you got laid you wouldn't have such a freaking stick up your @ss all the time. Seems to me that abstinence is the exact OPPOSITE of what you need. Although, it's good there are no more of you roaming around the earth causing nightmares. |
