There are many charities and organizations out there to assist in Africa. One.org is one of my favorites.
Just a word to the wise, make sure that it's a legitimate organization that you're sending your money to. You want to be sure it's going to where it should be, instead of remodelling someone's swimming pool! Like any charitible donation, do your homework first! |

No adopting is not the only way to "help" starving children.
UNICEF
Save the Children
Half the Sky (my favorite) |

If feeding starving children was the only motive for adoption then yes there are many other ways.
I have said this many times on here, but ALL of us globally are responsible for making the world a better place. People do not just adopt to help a child, they are also adopting to better their own life or create their own family.
There is nothing wrong wtih this, but let's be honest and stop putting it on all aodptive parents to change the world. This is a collective responsibility.
As for what we can do, Unicef and Red Cross are my global charities of choice. I don't ever support Christian groups going to evangalize, but will support them if their goals is to build a hospital or school, not to build a church!
AJ I think you mean Fair trade not free trade. Free trade causes all the problems to start with! |

No, there are many other ways such as donating money to many programs to help others such as darfur. There are many websites all around. Adopting is not so great when you want to help everyone, so donating is the best way.
If you really want to be a hero and be notice there are many ways you can join people to actually go to some poor places around the world. To find out how you can help please check the link. |

No,
The Salvation Army has a Children's Home in Porta Prince Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world.
The children home has a school, some children live at the school, only because their families cannot afford to keep them at home, they can't afford food and shelter.
Some children live at home and just come to school, where the only meals they may get are at school.
The goal of the children's home is to become a school only! They have been able to provide assistance to 20 families and return their children home in the last few years.
Look them up on line! |

I support free trade whenever i shop. that way money goes to the people actually doing the work in other countries, instead of big business. |

no, it is not the only way to fight starvation. but if you are a couple wanting to adopt, i can't think of a child who would be as needing of a good home, as well as food and medical care, than a child from a country with extreme poverty and subsequent hunger. but if a person does not want a baby, but yet wants to help feed the hungry, i have always heard feed the children is a good, honest program. i hope i am correct in this information. i am sure that our churches are very well versed in the charities which are reputable. unfortunately, i have not heard of manna world wide. of course, that doesn't mean a thing that i have not heard of it. but i have always heard to really be sure of your chosen charity that they are on the up and up. |

That would help, very well! But, you can do other things.
I stood for 4 hours and raised money for Darfur.
You can also donate money. I see commercials on TV alot. You can look it up on google
You can also go to freerice.com. U answer questions to give them 20 grains of rice per question! :) I actually just donate 2020 a second ago on it.(: |

No I would rather buy a groceries for someone I know instead of giving them money because then the money is not always spent for food.
As for adopting we have starving people in our own country |

This organization lets you pay a mother's way through school (in other countries) so the mother's can get jobs and support their children. I love this organization! I haven't done it for long, but in the two years I have helped 2 families (each woman had 4 kids) and it is only $30 a month. They send letters and pictures and you can respond. It is very cool. Keep families together and help starving kids. |

We support families in our DD's village thru our adoption agency. We will be flying back there and we will be checking to see where our $$ is going. (camcorders in tow). |

Ofcourse not. There are many charities out there.
But adoption is not about "helping starving children in need" (as you put it)- it's about adopting children whose parents made an adoption plan for them.
