What is your opinion about rebirthing with your adopted child in order to 'connect' better?

What is your opinion about rebirthing with your adopted child in order to 'connect' better?

I am not pro-rebirthing, I have done enough research to know this is not a healthy or safe practice. The only reason I looked into it online was because a friend of mine had heard about it, but didn't really KNOW anything about re-birthing. I have a 7 year old brother with attachment issues, and that's what got me looking. ANYWAY... here is a link to some of the info I found. Whats your opinion?

The birth of a child is not traumatic and doe's not effect the baby at all. I had my daughter at home and plan to have my second at home. There was nothing traumatic about it and she is fine. Even if I had her at a Hospital, I still wouldn't believe that! I had more control and freedom at home. God created us to have children. But those are my beliefs.

To answer the other part, if they want to connect with there adoptive child, that will happen over time, as there relationship grows.

is it not amazingly ironic that everyone says don't do rebirthing, but support your other post of attachment therapy

all of it is a load of crap (attachment theory, attachment parenting, reactive attachment disorder therapy, treatment, etc...) all of it based on false assumptions that get the RAD cult rich and help social services prove no one wants these kids (which is not true either)

http://childtorture.wordpress.com/

http://www.advocatesforchildrenintherapy.org/

most of RAD treatment ends up being legalized child abuse (most of it isn't even legal, they just some how get by with it) and almost every adoption go bad story in the news last 10 years has been RAD parenting or AT parenting gone bad

most of them still do holding therapy behind closed doors

that is the craziest thing I ever heard. I think it would cause more issues to the child in the end.

I think it is a fad and there are other ways to help a child "connect" that are safer and much less controversial.

As a person who was adopted as an "older" child (six yo), I would have thought my adopted parents had lost it (not that they "had" it to beguine with). I would never do this to a child! Of course then again I would never change a six year olds first name either! (thanks mom and dad)

I believe rebirthing is abuse. I do not think it would have any positive effects on my son with rads. I think it would have just made it worse. Rebirthing is a disgusting concept.
I wish people would think more along the lines of "reparenting" and just parent the best they can. Consistency, love, and truth were the only things that helped my son.

Rebirthing is unnecessary, dangerous, and abusive. I've been reading for a few years now about a parenting system for kids who have shaky attachments (including RAD), and I really appreciate this system. The more I learn about it, the more I like it. I've been reading the book, and every chapter talks about the "old" method (i.e. attachment therapies, like rebirthing, etc.), and "a new view", which is the authors' approach to attachment. The book is called Beyond Consequences, Logic, and Control. It's an awesome book. I'd look into it. Best of luck.

it's a crock. and childen have died. pinning a child down and FORCING them to tell someone "i love you" is nothing less than what happens to prisoners. a person held captive learns to adapt and comply to stop the behavior that hurts them.

this is the stupidest sh!t (not your questions, the concept of rebirthing) i've read. and anyone who uses it should be charged and convicted of child abuse; and have their children removed.

NO their is a reason we are only born once

I think it's all psycho-babble mumbo jumbo on par with regression therapy and primal screaming, only more dangerous. If nothing else, some people got rich writing books on all the stuff but thats about it.

NO WAY! That's crazy and dangerous.

Most adoptive parents and children bond just fine. If someone would even consider doing something this dangerous just because they are afraid they won't bond makes me question their fitness to be a parent.

Me, I'd have just sat in there listening to my Ipod.

It's a whole load of psycho babble rubbish for women who don't want to actually work at bonding with a child, they want things done their way.

Would a child ever willingly go through this, what does a child get?

Zip. Zero. Nadda.

Yet again another example of women wanting babies of their own, being 'forced to adopt', like we don't feel second rate enough already.

If they can't accept the children as they are, they need to change.

It will never be their little womb baby....

Reminds me, did i put Rammstein on my Ipod..... hmm....

Load of bull s**t and dangerous. Like the kid doesn't have enough problems lets hold them down and practically suffocate them.

Seriously what would you do if someone did that to you. I'd be looking for revenge in a big way (after I caught my breath and got my strength back)

All this tells me is if you don't do what i expect from you, and act the way I expect you to, this is what will happen to you.

You'd better hope you sleep lighter than I do.

There are a few things in life that can only happen once...and being born is one of them.

Noooooooooo. Don't do it. Kids have died doing that. Get the boy into some good counseling instead of these new age nonsense things.

It's not something I would do. There's too much danger of injury from suffocation or crushing. Aside from that, I think there's emotional danger-- the process seems traumatic and frightening for the children, and I've heard far more negative outcomes than positive outcomes. Making troubled children more afraid is not a smart way to handle problems. I think re-birthing could damage trust and actually worsen attachment difficulties.

Like it or not, human beings are only born once, and that's just a fact of life. Some people have trauma related to their birth, abuse, neglect, or separation from biological family, and that's a shame... but it can't just be erased. There are no do-overs when it comes to a person being born. I do think more conventional therapy and counseling are important in helping adoptive families bond, but I think re-birthing specifically is based on wishful thinking that can't really come true, and can all too often do more harm than good.

I honestly think re-birthing is too physically and emotionally dangerous to be attempted.
