Why do some people adopt ?

I dont mean the parents who cant give birth to a baby
I mean the one who can give birth but chooses to adopt

H******
Because they are resourceless

*what kermit said* and because maybe they want to help someone less fortunate have a better life.

They want to save a baby from having to live in an orpanange/ foster home their whole life. Its not their fault some people decide to give up thier babies.

I'm sure everyone has their own ideas on this one.
Many adopt because they want a larger family.
Most adopt to give a child a home.
They are providing foster care and the child becomes available for adoption so they adopt.
Their sister, family member passes so they adopt the child to keep them in the family.

Some women can be too scared of giving birth. It was something i heard on the radio today, it is a real phobia, i forget the name it was given but the fear of giving birth can lead to some women adopting.

edit: i did a quick google search out of interest and the fear of giving birth is Tokophobia.

Fall Child[DF]
The world is already overpopulated, we don't need more people. Instead, they want to give a child who doesn't have parents a home and family.

Plus, some women may not want to go through pregnancy. :P I don't want children, but if I did, I would adopt.

my princess has arrived 5/7/10
some people who adopt were adopted themselves... my bestfriend could have her own children but she would also like to adopt because she feels she should give a child a good life the same as she was given.

Because the Earth is already overpopulated and there are plenty of unwanted babies out there.

they have somuch love in themself that they want to give part of the feeling to someone who never had that feeling before

Lamar1979
Because some people don't want to pass on bad genes!

Dread Head has a pet Zorro
my mom adopted because she had raised her 5 kids and was left with a huge empty house and lots of money and wanted to help out children in need. She adopted teenage boys and has kept them in contact with their family back home who are extremly grateful for the chance my mother has provided for their boys.

to give a child without anyone to love them a chance to have a loving family. they may want to do good in the world :)

Madeline R
Because children need help around the world. and some people might not want to have another baby. or maybe they want an older kid.

To give a poor, hopeless child a nice and loving home.

I agree with Kermit. There are too many children out there who do not have parents. Maybe some women have certain things that run in the family (Down Syndrome, MS, certain cancers) and do not want to risk giving that to a child. Some women are deathly afraid of the birthing process so they adopt. There are tons of reasons why people do it. I think mostly it is because they want to help. Want to make a difference in a child's life. I know a couple who would make wonderful parents, but the were both raised in the foster system, so they are now foster parents. They have had probably 6 six different children over the past few years, and they really do help these kids. They mostly get teenagers and are still in contact with 2 of them, 6 years after they left. I admire these people more than words can ever express.

I answered your other adopt Q and it hardly matters if they can give birth. It's a mindset to do something that's either nobel, moral, right, or helpful in a most caring sense.

It's no less a challenge or obligation to give birth or adopt a child, and maybe it just means ya do feel connected to helping a lost child or one that was given up.

To one answer who said GAY, Thumbs up yer,,, Gay has nothing to do with it.

The notion, or object, or idea behind it certainly have something to do with a moral sense for the child, but also what a family can afford. I know people who have way lots of kids, all adopted, plus some of their own biologicals, but they can afford it.

To give hope to that child.

Probably
Perhaps because there are hundreds of thousands of children already in existence who need parents and love. Or because they both carry traits for a debilitating condition like Tay Sachs syndrome.

The reasons are often as a varied as the people.

My son's adoptive parents could have children but chose to adopt then went on to have a child of their own. My dad's cousin and his wife had two sons then adopted three children again because they wanted to give their adopted children a loving home.

Caylen
because they want to give other kids a home and a family.

There are over 120,000 children in foster care in the United States who are legally free for adoption and are waiting for good homes. (This does not include children who may be returning to their families from foster care; that number is many times higher.) While babies are usually adopted fast, most of these waiting children are older, of racial minorities, in sibling groups, or have special needs. A large percentage of them will age out of foster care without ever having a permanent living situation.

These children are just as deserving of love, compassion, attention, and parental care as my biological child would be. They are not 'less than' because they didn't come from my body. I could choose to have a baby, but my preference is to give a home to a waiting child who needs one. I would rather put my energy into helping a child heal from trauma.

I'm not saying someone who chooses differently is doing anything wrong. I'm not opposed to people having biological children, not at all. But for me, foster care adoption is where I feel my interests and skills lie.

Some people may feel like instead of over populating the world anymore adopt those who need a loving family.

Because they would rather give their love to a child that is already here and needs a family to love them than to create a new life.

Listen. I'm adopted by parents that can have children. They did it because they saw the situation that me and my brother and my sister were in and they thought that we deserved better. that's why.

Mom to Foster Children
We chose to adopt as my husband (2nd marriage) always wanted to be a father and instead of going through a reversal on myself we decided on adoption. We chose reunification foster care as we really believed that this would be for us. We helped two families get their children back and it was wonderful and it still is to see them grow up. One of our children's parents relinquished their parental rights during their TPR and we couldn't say no when asked if we would like to raise him!

Because there are enough people on earth already - don't need to make more, and instead take care of the ones we already have.
