why chose abortion over adoption?

a lot of girls/ women have abortions, but why that when you can save your baby and give him/her a better life? so why abortion over adoption?
Additional Details
im not trying to be judgmental/mean or anything like that im just curious. i got pregnant when i was 17, and thought of abortion, i was even told to do it, but i have a choice so i didn't do it i new i could love and raise my child, now i have a 11 month old son who i love with all my life. but if i ever thought i "couldn't" raise him or love him, than i would have put him up for OPEN adoption, and i would make sure to get to know the adoptive parents.

and im sorry for those of u who have bad experience with adoption.

People are selfish and want to keep sleeping around, so they use abortion as birth control. They'd rather abort than go through a full pregnancy. Or the father is a loser and threatens to beat up the girl if she doesn't abort. Unfortunately, abortions often cause internal problems and when the girl finally grows up and is ready to have kids, she cannot because her insides are too damaged from the abortions.

The only exceptions in my opinion are incest and rape. Incest, the kid can have birth defects and will be a reject of society. With rape, I don't think anyone should be forced to bear that child, a constant reminder of the night they were raped. And if the rape-child is up for adoption, it will be difficult to find a home. In some cases, children born from rape grow up to be rapists, and people just don't want to deal with that.

Isn't it obvious? Pure selfishness is the answer.
-They don't want the humiliation of being an unwed mother.
-They don't want the pain of giving up their child.
-They don't want the pain of pregnancy.
-They don't want the stretch marks and weight gain.
-They're cowards and their mothers should have aborted them!

I can only speak for myself as an adoptee, but I'm certainly glad my bmom didn't choose abortion. I have no feelings of abandonment or distrust. I grew up with parents who loves and wanted me in their lives. My bmom was in a situation where she was unable to raise a child in a healthy environment, and chose to give me a better life. I think giving your child up for adoption is the harder choice of the two, but the least selfish, as well.

Well this is a personnel choice there are many reasons a woman or young girl might get an abortion over placing their child for adoption. Some may even be pressured into it. There are women who have dealt poorly with getting an abortion I know a lady who got one this was least 20 years ago and she to this day regrets it wishes she’d parented or at least placed the child for adoption, thinks of the child she killed every day.

The way I see every life that is conceived it’s because God wants that live in this world. Well everyone who has aborted will stand before the father and even the children they murdered and have to face them face to face. Luckily for those aborted children they are with God and Christ and could not have a better life being raised in Heaven but that does not change the fact that God wanted them to have an earthly life.

I honor life and I believe that a spirit chooses its womb, for whatever reason. I don't believe in God, I'm a Taoist. However, that being said, I believe that everything is interconnected and that we have to respect nature and all living things.

Abortion is a tool convenient for the purposes of time. What humans haven't realized is that 'time' is not really under our control since life can be taken without a moments notice. However, humans have spent the last 30,000 years changing their environment instead of accepting and adapting to it in the form that it is. Because of this, abortion is widely accepted and not considered murder as riding across the country on horseback is silly when one can fly. In this, we have changed the rules of our existence and sadly will have to face the consequences of such in this regard at some point as globalism continues to purge it's evils on planet Earth.

BTW, I believe youtube has ultrasound coverage of a fetas undergoing an abortion.

Do you really think treating a girl as a "breeder" is helping your cause.

Whats with your "all or nothing" agenda?

Why not give support financially and emotionally to pregnant girls so they are less likely abort and are more prepared to parent?

Babies want their mothers not strangers.

Alot of girls are concerned about their bodies...pregnancy does all sorts of fun things to your figure! Not to mention how much fun birth is..they let people tell them that their baby has no feeling and isn't an actual baby yet even thou they have a beating heart and they can feel pain.

Adoption is a hard thing...emotionally (believe me I know). Some girls just don't think they can handle giving up their child after going through 9 months and would rather to just not go through it at all.

Its an choice every girl has to make for themselves (whether you or I agree with it or not) Every child should have a chance to have life but some people just don't have that respect for human life.

ETA: Aborting a baby does not abort the memory of a rape. And yes I would have a child of rape. and I did...she lives with an adoptive family and has her own chance at life. HE was the one who did an awful thing to me...not her. My daughter did nothing. I saw her as MY daughter. Why go thru the pain of childbirth just to give it away? Because at a certain point you have to stand up for the defenseless...and you have to decide where your morals lie. Mine doesn't cross the line of killing babies.

Everyone who is saying abortion is bad are getting BIG thumbs down...but its what we feel strongly about. You (in a general sense of the word, no one specific) can have your opinion and I have mine. If I get a thumbs down them at least I still stood by what I think is right. I would expect anyone to do the same.

Crystal
if you were raped and found out you were pregnant would you keep it? i personally would have an abortion not to abort the baby but to abort the memory also. Then the next question would be why not adopt it out. and I'll say why go through all the pain of childbirth just to give it away....

people choose to abort for so many reasons some are good and some are bad but who are we too judge as it's not our body?

Simple - the lifetime of agony with abortion only lasts for hours at the most, whereas the lifetime of agony with adoption can last for decades.

Well, especially with teen mothers, sometimes the body is not physically able to give birth or even experience pregnancy for a full nine months, and it is better for the mother's health to abort. Also, in cases of rape, it may be difficult to have a constant reminder of a horrible trauma, and in the case of the child... a very close friend of mine was born because her mother was raped. Her mother loved her very much, kept her and raised her and never resented her. However, she still constantly suffered from depression and had multiple self-worth issues. She committed suicide at the age of 15. Also, they may know that, for whatever reason, their child will end up in foster care, and that's not what they want. There are lots of different reasons.

Why even ask this question. All you are going to do is get people mad. There are plenty of people for the choice of abortion and plenty of people against it. All this does is get people arguing and that does little to solve the problem. Why not instead talk about prevention. THANK GOODNESS for things such as PLAN B! I am so glad my daughter will have more options that I ever had as a young adult. As a parent, I will most definitely educate my children as to how to protect themselves against diseases and unwanted pregnancies. I will teach them about teen dating violence & abuse, peer pressure, teenage "love", relationship issues. Its MY job to educate them. If parents aren't teaching their kids, the schools need to. Education is the ONLY way out. Not listening to more preaching and bickering from the pro-lifers. BTW, I am not pro-choice, I am not Pro-life, I am PRO EDUCATION.

I was adopted as an infant, and was never accepted by my adoptive parents. I never fit in with my adoptive family.

When I was 27 years old, my birth control failed and I became pregnant. At that time, I was not conscious of adoption having anything to do with my experience growing up, but I know now that knowledge existed subconsciously. I knew in my soul that children should not be raised by strangers. They have no faces or personalities around them to hang the hats of their own features or personalities on. They are perpetually rootless, faceless, lost - no matter HOW loved.

I WAS aware that my decision to abort was, in effect, a "mercy killing", as I did not want to put my child through the painful experiences I had.

Had I become pregnant again and again and again, I would have made the same decision again and again and again, until I was in a position to keep and raise my child myself.

Because some people are too young, or not ready to have a baby. abortion isn't murder, there's nothing there yet.. and its better than bringing a baby into a family that cant look after it/don't want it

Well, some people, mostly teenagers, don't want to pay $11,000 a year for their kid (thats the usual annual cost). They have to finish high school, or college or keep working. Starting out life early with a kid is rough and can even destroy relationships, I am not for or against abortion, but I think I would prefer to keep the child.

chaddad67
Ruin your young perky body, then get all stretch marky just to give it away after all the hard work has been done. And not everyone thinks of it like, "Oh my baby growing inside of me", plenty of girls and women think its a disease growing in there

Why do you feel the need to force women to bear a child that they aren't going to keep? I don't get it.

Pregnancy has a much higher risk of death and injury. In addition, you know that the child isn't going to suffer.

I regret not having an abortion. Instead of destroying one life, adoption destroyed 2.

Finally, we already have a severe overpopulation problem. There are MANY abandoned children and nobody wants to take care of all of them. All those conservatives are constantly lambasting women with kids on welfare instead of praising them for not aborting babies they couldn't support. Hypocrisy. Even in my state, just in the paper yesterday, more cuts to public health, much of which benefits children born to parents who can't afford them (such as free vaccinations). And before you start screaming adoption, the majority of adopters want healthy, WHITE babies. They don't want a sick baby and certainly don't want a drug baby. That is why adoption agencies and those related really hit hard on pressuring states such as SD to not provide $$ to moms who have babies out of wedlock because they are a primarily white population with low drug use. Perfect for the adoption market. You wouldn't believe the incredible pressure that goes on girls in rural sections of my state to give up their babies and they WANT them.

If young mothers to be actually had a choice with true support. Adoption and abortion would be almost nonexistent. Why do we have to pin young mothers up against the wall. Some of these women are not even in a life situation where a mere pregnancy is suitable and there survival is completely unobtainable. A person's life has to be under complete and udder stress for either to even take place. The adoption predators promote and encourage a society to not function so that they can obtain baby's for there industry. So, as long as we live in a society that does not support and encourage young mothers to be the best and support them as mothers, we will always have the controversies associated with adoption and abortion.

Giving a child up for adoption, is a lifelong pain, it is sometimes, very hard to live with, and how do you know that your child will have a better life. Abortion is over an done with.
Until you have given a child up you are thinking of an abstract idea. You personally have no idea how it will affect everyone involved.
I have never had an abortion but I sometimes think it would have been better for us all. I've been in reunion for 9 years, my daughter was molested in her better life.

they'd be giving him/her a longer life, for sure. you can't say better unless you're comparing it to a different life.

some have abortions to hide that fact that something happened to make them pregnant.
