Do you have to have parents permission for a passport when you are 16?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do you have to have parents permission for a passport when you are 16?

I'm turning 16 this week, and I just wanted to know whether I needed parents permission to get a passport?

I missed out on getting a passport last year because me and my mother don't get on so she refused to agree to sign the application form things that you need for a passport. I missed out on 2 holiday because of her idiocy.

Do I need her signature still, or not?

"Grow-up and get over yourself! Cry baby! It's obvious you can't handle the responsibility."

erm, what? what responsibility? that has no relevance whatsoever to this question. my mother chucked me out 6 years ago and I haven't seen her since. that's why we don't get on. am I crying about it? no. haha some people, man.

Grow-up and get over yourself! Cry baby! It's obvious you can't handle the responsibility.

yeah you will... you could forge it tho haha

yes you do...but you could always ask your father to ask her to sign it. If she doesn't have any physical or legal custody over you though...that could change everything. Are your parent's divorced?

The Dark Side
I see you are asking from the British site so as GP says, all the answers assuming you are American are wrong. After the age of 16, you are treated as an adult for British passport purposes and you no longer need a parent's signature on the form. You also get to pay the higher adult passport fee!

You also need as well parental consent access to your birth certificate.

Might be helpful to make peace with your mother a they are now quite an expensive item and new ones in some cases now require an interview as we..

Corn Head

Yes you need permission.

Yes, you're not an adult yet.

Yes.. you do. Unless you are not under your parents/gardians care

You have gotten 8 answers by Americans who did not check that you have asked the question in Y!A United Kingdom. American passport applications of minors being 16 and 17 years require the establishment of parental consent.

For a U.K. passport application you do not need that any longer once being 16. Scottish people reach the age of majority once they turn 16, why should they need a parental permission to get a passport?
