How can i order a passport online?

You must appear in person. You can get the form (Ds-11) on line and fill it out and print it off, but you must appear at a post office or county clerk office to submit.

You will need:

Complete form
Original birth certificate (from the county; hospital Certificates of birth do NOT count)
Two identical passport pictures
Two checks for the payments ($30 postmaster or County Clerk; $67 passport services)
They need to see your driver's license

It is taking 10 weeks on a standard, 5 weeks on an expedite. If you need to speed it up, that is the $60 that turns it into an expedite.

Faster than 5 weeks? You need to make an appointment to the closest Passport agency (1-877-487-2778)

The system is very jammed, so it can get frustrating to break through the lines

I just filled out an online application for a passport, but I still had to print the form out and post it with my payment mandate, photos and old passport.

If you have never had a passport before you will need to fill out a paper form, get photographs taken (check the photgraph specification for your country) and you will have to have an interview. No getting around it I'm afraid!

why not go to a US postal service ? it will be as fast ......

Depends what national you are?
If you are an American then you need to check with the nearest INS office...

If your a Brit then u need to check with the nearest HOME OFFICE...

If your from another country please specify for us to help you..

if you're a british citizen, i believe you have to have a face-to-face interview now, after sending in an application form.

i think it's all part of the big brother network....biometric testing etc.

For a UK one, you can download the forms and information from the website, but you cannot apply online as you have to send in documentation, photo's and birth certificates etc, as its a first passport, I'd get going on sorting it now as could take a good few weeks and so many people are silly leaving it to the last minute, they reject so many photo's as they have to be done in a certain way, plus they check on the person who has verified them, this all takes time....

Get a form from the post office and follow the instructions. You can't do it online I don't believe.

Type or print legibly in black ink when completing all sections of this application.
