Absolutely legalize it. It's no worse than smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer. Driving under the influence of it would still be illegal, anyway.

I have thought about this, and I think possibly an age limit to obtain would benefit both the people and the police. Taxing and creating jobs off an industry of cannabis can put money in the coffers, and save police valuable time to focus on the real crimes.

The Dark Side

Even some expert opinion is coming round to the idea that it should be. Objective facts are that it is less dangerous than tobacco and alcohol, and that people get it anyway if they want to. The Netherlands experience is evidence for that second fact - in the Netherlands, possession of less than 1 oz has been decriminalised (meaning that it is still illegal but the police officially ignore it) and it is on sale in coffeeshops in Amsterdam. The Netherlands has no more of a "drug problem" than anywhere else.

Tobacco and alcohol are not banned because they have been around for so long that they are socially acceptable and the government taxes them. It would make sense to do the same with weed. That would raise some tax revenue and free up police time.
