Your baby will get a passport from its place of birth so if you want it to have a British passport you would have to have it here |

Odds are the baby would be a citizen of the country in which it is born. But, I'm sure the British embassy will have the correct answer for you. |

i have a feeling that your child would have dual nationality. i.e he would qualify for a british passport and a passport for the country he/she was born in, but don't quote me on that. |

He wouldn't have to be born in the UK to get the passport......... you would have to apply through the british embassy to get him one but i don't see it being a problem as you are British.
My husband was born in the UK and his mother is Canadian and he has a Canadian passport as well as his British one. |

The laws have recently changed so I think it might be better for you to go in the UK Passport site and read what it says there. They are tightening up on immigration so please don't take everything for granted. |

You get to keep your nationality.
It may be passed on one time by descent
Your child born abroad would become by British descent and therefore have to have children in the UK to keep it from their nationality line.
To be a full (otherwise than by descent) you must be born in the UK to at least one british parent (or have UK ILR)

One of the babies parents will have to be British not by decent in order for the baby to be eligible for a British passport. Were you born in the UK to UK parents?
The baby does not have to be born in the UK to be a UK citizen and obtain a British passport. My son is a dual UK/US citizen. His dad is British not by decent. So even though he (son) was born in the US he is also a UK citizen and has a British passport as well.
Look into if you and/or your husband is British by decent or British not by decent.

If one of the parents is a British citizen otherwise than by descent then the child can be a British citizen by descent.
As far as the child getting citizenship of the country of birth that would depend on the country. Most countries do not give citizenship based on where you are born but rather the child must get the citizenship from the parent. |

If you were born in the UK, then the baby would be a British citizen by descent from you and can have a British passport. Your husband cannot pass that status on as he is a British citizen by descent himself. To apply for a British passport for the baby, you would have to provide its full birth certificate showing parents' names, and proof that you are a British citizen not by descent such as your full British birth certificate, or naturalisation or registration certificate if you became a British citizen by either of those methods.
Once again assuming you are a British citizen not by descent, if your baby was born overseas, it would be a British citizen by descent. If it was born in the UK, it would be a British citizen by birth and would be able to pass on British citizenship to any children it has in the future. |
