I'm in United kingdom and I'm a us citizen. I lost my passport. What should i do?

Go to the US embassy. Tell them what happened and do what they tell you to do. I am sure you are not the first nor will you be the last to lose your passport while out of the country.

US embassy in UK will give you a list of documents and the amount of fees to be paid along with your application for issuing a duplicate passport. Complete the formalities to get the passport. You can opt for immediate action, if you can convince the officer about your genuine urgency.

Before rushing to the embassy and paying for a new one, check with the nearest police station where you lost it, or if your UK address was in it, your nearest police station. Otherwise the embassy may have had it returned to them and they may be holding it.

Do you need it right away? Call the embassy and they can give you a passport or a temporary in an hour. You probably didn't but for future reference....... make a photocopy of the first two pages and keep it somewhere other than say..... your purse or pocket that you have your passport in. This speeds things up tremendously.

Go to the embassy.. they deal with this a lot. Don't worry, they will get you back home when you need to be. The embassy in the UK is great and relations are good so your British customs should not be as bad as other countries you could be in. BUT don't go through customs without seeing the embassy first.

Prior to going to the local US consulate or embassy get a report from the local police (in the area you think you lost the passport). If you do not know where it was lost use your British home address.
Happens all the time. They, the US, do charge a replacement fee.
