Should we put Iranian embassy staff on trial?

No. Just put their embassy in a state of siege, not allowing them in or out (or any food to be delivered) cut off the water to the embassy until the British embassy staff are released. When they are released, we should call them all home and expel the all of the Iranians from Great Britain.

So, your solution would be to arrest the Brits working at the Iranian embassy to show Iran you really mean business? I'm sure these people arrested in Iran are not Brits on diplomatic visas.if they were, they'd have to declare them persona non grata and force them to leave. you could force the ambassador to leave or even close the embassy though.

I would normally boycott buying any products from a country that offends me. Alas, Iran doesn't seem to export much apart from oil (which I need for my motor), Persian cats and carpets. I'm getting so I can't afford to buy anything they produce anyway.

We should not do like for like. I think we should try to get our people back though, one way or the other.

No that would mean we are being hypocritical to what we stand for which is a democracy.

Those Iranians hate the West anyway. They're looking for every opportunity to attack the West. First step arrest British embassy workers. Next step put them on trial. These people need to sort themselves out. I'm glad France and the EU is backing the UK against the atrocious ideologies of the Iranian officials.

As I already said in another post : The embassy workers people being put on trial in Iran are Iranians. If we did the same in Britain, we'd be putting British citizens on trial.
Even disregarding the fact that that wouldn't be possible in a democracy : why would you want to prosecute innocent British citizens ?
