Why USA didn't returned Alaska and California to Russia in 1961?

Similarly Hong Kong was rented by Britain for 100 years in 1898.
And Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997

By the way it was friendly step from Russia Emperor of all Russias to USA for diplomatic collaboration during Crimea war of France, Britain and Turkey against Russia in 1854-1855.
If we would sell it to Britain (Hudson Bay Company) , we could get much more money for Alaska, Aleut islands and Russian California.

Miles and miles of beaches, largest cities, wild car chases in 6 lane free ways, 100,000 acre wild fire, nice weather, 230 military installations 16 of them in San Diego...etc

More than half of the entire US money and economy lies in California. (until the actor became the governor). He is an actor NOT a politician therefore, Californians made a BIG MISTAKE.

a. we bought legally, alaska from the russians and
b,. california was controlled by the spanish then the mexicans whom we won the land fair and sqaure in a war. HK was leased to the UK not sold.

We bought part of the US s.east from France and Manhatten from the natives.

Even US natives get royalty payments for oil, coal, minerals etc. I have a native friend who collect 3-6 US thousand dollars from the US govt.

I don't think Russia new of the recources both states had to offer, or they would have taken them back by force.

For intance they didn't know before 1849 that there would be a gold rush in California.

The Spanish didn't know Florida was a citrus mecca, they thought it was a swamp.

Britain leased the land on a 99 year lease for a large portion of the area on which HK was built. The PRC refused to extend the lease. Without that portion of the land, HK was not a viable proposition, so the British negotiated a handover.

Alaska was purchased from the owner, Russia.

If you buy something, you own it. If you lease it, you never owned it.

Alaska was purchased from Russia without any promise to return it. Russia has never made any claims to California, aside from a settlement (in land claimed by Britain) which they abandoned in 1841. Meanwhile, Britain specifically leased Hong Kong when they colonized it. They agreed when they did so to return the city to Chinese control June 30, 1997.
