i was born in germany and i have german mother but my father is english. at the moment ive live in england for 6 consecutive years. i was wondering if i could have both a german and english passport, i have known people to have it but that was a long time ago, so the rules could of changed since.

Ummm, I think you have to have Dual Citizenship. I'm not 100% sure though. |

Britain does permit dual nationality. Note "British", not "English".
There is no great advantage in this arrangement, any longer, since citizenship of one EU country, gives you the same rights in all other EU countries. |

No you can't have an English passport as England doesn't issue passports but you could have a British passport issued by the UK.
If you have a German passport, as a citizen of an EU member state you need live in the UK for 5 years before you become eligible to apply for British citizenship by naturalisation.

If your parents were married at the time of your birth & your father is a British citizen then you can claim a British passport through your father, you don't need to go through all this fuss about citizenship by naturalisation.
You should speak to the German Embassy & find out if they allow dual nationality - if they don't, if you really want a British passport then you would have decide whether to renounce German citizenship to take up the British passport.
There is no advantage to holding one passport or the other, British citizens have no additional privileges unless it comes to voting. |
