Divorce the loser, he'll only drag you down to his depraved level, marry a nice law-abiding citizen like me instead.

Oh dear. Yes, call the British consulate in Washington, who will then either tell you to call the consulate in Lagos, or they'll deal with it directly. If you didn't hear from them you need to wait (unless it's been like more than say 12 hours, in which case call them again).

Start praying!. you've as much chance of god listening as the British consulate. you never said what he was arrested for??

Divorce the bstd!!!

Seriously:
He is British - go to the British Consulate, of course. Try visiting them on the Internet and leaving a brief account of what has happened and they will then (hopefully) contact you. I understand they ARE quite helpful when they can be. Details below (in "source"). For Christ' sake do NOT involve too many people swapping information etc. as has been suggested.Twice as many people do NOT do things twice as fast - it is 10 times slower if at ALL!!!

contact the British Embassy in Nigeria- There is a Deputy High Commission in Lagos itself e-mail at : consular.lagos@fco.gov.uk

Website for British Embassies abroad is www.fco.gov.uk this contains all contact details

Good luck, hopefully they can help.

the US consulate /embassy have nothing to do with a British citizen it up to the Brits to act keep in mind that any consulate will need time to get all the information from the country that arrested your hubby it maybe that consular officer has been already dispatched to ensure that its citizen received proper legal representation or suggest a local attorney at his expenses to represent him hope it was not drug related you on the other hand can contact your US senator and see what aid if any they will render to you

The best approach would be to contact both the US Embassy in Nigeria, and the British Embassy there. The embassies in the country of question are the ones that are best placed to deal with this.

The British Embassy will obviously deal with the matter as best they can as they have an obligation to their citizens, and will deal with you as you're family, regardless of the fact that you're not a British citizen.

The US Embassy may also take an interest as this is also affecting the family member of a US citizen (ie. you).

You should also tell both embassies that you've contacted the other, & who you spoke to at each so they can contact each other to discuss the best approach between them. This way, if you're lucky (& the emphasis is on IF) you may get double the efforts applied to help you, rather than if you'd just approached one.

Good luck, it sounds like a traumatic situation!
