Nope, it's been known that Texas belonged to Mexico, but even if Spain conquered any spanish speaking country, they do not have the first dibs, the only ones that have dibs to it will be Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas!

At the end of the Mexican-American war in 1848 the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. In the treaty, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California, and parts of Colorado, Nevada, and Utah were sold to the United States for $15 million. The 800,000 Mexicans living in those areas were granted the same rights of U.S. citizens. Violence and discrimination forced many of these Mexicans off their land, and some went back to Mexico. After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was passed in 1848 and until 1924, when the Border Patrol was created, Mexicans were allowed to freely move between the United States and Mexico. They were employed in agriculture, cattle ranching, mining, railroads, and many other industries. After the creation of the Border Patrol, Mexicans working in the U.S. were considered “illegal aliens.” The situation only worsened during the Great Depression when Mexican workers were seen as a threat to American jobs. During this time, 500,000 Mexican workers were deported.
World War II created a new demand for laborers, and attitudes towards Mexican workers changed drastically. In 1942, the Bracero Program gave Mexican workers the right to temporarily work in the United States. The program only allowed these workers to work for only one employer, so they had no options if they were mistreated by their employers. The Bracero Program ended in 1964, and the director referred to it as “legalized slavery.” The mechanization of agricultural production in the 1960s greatly reduced the demand for field workers. Caesar Chavez started the United Farm Workers Union and conditions and wages for field workers increased. By the mid-1990s, the farm unions had lost a lot of their power and the demand for farm workers increased. All these new jobs were not filled by Americans, so the demand for Mexican labor increased again.
Operation Gate Keeper, a Californian initiative in 1994, aimed at sealing the Mexican border. A 14-mile-long fence was built along the Tijuana border, and more border patrol officers were hired. Knowing this does anyone really think that Mexicans will just go away? Easier is it to start learning espanol!

First dibs on California-first a Spanish settlement, followed by Mexicans
Texas was settled first by Native Americans...sorry not Maya or Aztecs, but Comanche (nothing to do with Mexico), Spaniards followed then Mexicans
New Mexico-Native American settlement again-Pueblos. then Spanish.
Arizona-Again Native Americans-Spain followed in their search of the City of Cibola.
So Native Americans have first dibs then true blooded Spainards

It was Spain originally but the Mexico claims it was theirs. THEY ARE WRONG! The southwest belongs to America now. I live in southern California, not northern Mexico!

Well, the US took about half of Mexico when they took California, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado after the Mexican American War.

Texas was also part of Mexico, but it split off and was independent for a brief period.

Richard C
California originally belonged to the native Indians. It was 'stolen' by Spain, who passed it on to Mexico, who in turn got the land stolen from them by the U.S. The original owners are the native Americans who inhabited the land prior to the European conquest.

king Ebanks of USA
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed on February 2, 1848 by American diplomat Nicholas Trist, ended the war and gave the U.S undisputed control of Texas, established the U.S.-Mexican border of the Rio Grande River, and ceded to the United States California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming. In return, Mexico received US $15,000,000.

Chan is correct.

Mexico never owned the southwest United States. The lands were inhabited by American Indian tribes, until the Spanish conquered them and took the land. The Spanish had "second dibs", then they gave the land to their mestizo Mexican children, who had "third dibs", and then lost the land to the American colonists ("fourth dibs"). Mexicans did not exist before the Spanish came. Mexican history is only 500 years old. The native tribes of what is now called Mexico, did not live on what is now the southwest United States, there were American Indian tribes already settled on these lands.

Mestizos lie about their rights to the land that their white Spanish fathers stole. Their claims to the southwest are an insult to the American Indians. The American Indians were on the land first, for thousands of years. The Aztec and Mayan tribes lived further south in what is now Mexico, where the mestizos belong.
