And of course, if an employer abuses a legal worker (requiring unpaid overtime, for example), that worker knows that he or she can complain to the authorities without fear--or just get a different/better job. For that matter, a legal worker especially a teen, probably views flipping burgers as a steppingstone to a better job or paying for college, whereas an illegal alien needs to make it a career. Too bad that the wages and benefits aren't really enough to support an illegal alien worker for whom this is a full-time job and who's supporting a family on this job--that's why these jobs were mainly for teens in the first place.

Well, that percentage has dropped since e-verify and the immigration crack down was introduced, and that's the same reason why their employee turn-around is soo high now! Many US fast food places rely on illegal immigrants because they work hard and show up to work on time, were as the teens like to party too much and don't like to be told what to do a lot of times. The percentage was high for illegals employed by fast food, but sadly, that has changed. So next time you get a cold burger, or a pizza where the dough was rubbed somewhere the sun don't shine (Dominos, look it up), you can blame congress.

Restaurants confront immigration enforcement

Last year, when Congress failed to reach a consensus on immigration reform, local and state governments looking to satisfy angry constituents were left to their own devices in order to address what some consider a serious problem: millions of illegal immigrants living and working in the U.S.

For the quick-serve restaurant industry, the topic couldn’t be more relevant. Restaurants have a high turnover rate and need to hire workers to fill a constantly rotating kitchen staff. In many cases, illegal immigrants can end up on the roster.

The best way to handle the problem is not thru E-Verify - even though that is good just not enforced - the best way is to elimanate IRS form 1099-Misc - that way they can work and PAY taxes as they will be taken out of each pay check - then they would be paying for Medicaid, School for their kids etc and reduce the amount of money they send back home -
