What's so bad about 16 million illegal immigrants becoming tax-paying citizens of America?
|
They will ALL be required to obtain a social security number and pay taxes. Won't this actually solve much of our tax burdens? Won't this actually become a boost to our economy? Won't this actually pay more towards our national debt? Additional Details Sorry, but I've seen thousands of lazy, welfare dependent, selfish, Americans not working and depending on our government handouts more than the thousands of hard-working, hard labor, Mexican immigrants I've seen around. I have NO tolerance for all the BS flying around here about Mexicans being lazy and criminal.

I've also seen what it was like in New Orleans after all the illegal aliens came flooding in after Katrina. It wasnt pleasant. |

Well where do you want to start. 1 We have a problem with over crowding. 2 How many will to turn them self's in to get legal. 3 Jobs are slim to none in many states because of illegal immigrants. 4 16 million will soon turn in to 25 million and we can't keep up with building school at that rate 5 Well if you don't get by now your just not going to. |

You aren't really that naive, the context of the question, is
a ploy, illegals only want amnesty , to continue to abuse our
system. |

Won't it be rewarding the criminals for their behavior?
You assume that all of the illegal immigrants are going to pay their "fines" and then become card carrying members of our nation. WRONG! They are just going to continue living the way they are because they can! What is going to happen to them if they don't "get on board"? How are you going to find someone that is undocumented? YOU'RE NOT!!
There are millions upon millions that do it the legal way each and every year. Why should someone that did it illegally get to jump ahead of all those doing things legally? How is that fair?
And we have been doing fine thus far with our national expenses without the payment of the illegal immigrant's taxes. What makes you think that they are going to make that much of a difference? If anything, what is going to happen is once they become legal citizens, a majority of them will be out of work due to the LAW that states they have to be paid minimum wage for their work, and that they can't be worked against the federal labor laws (you know, getting paid for overtime, having to be offered benefits, etc). They suddenly become not such a hot commodity. So what are we going to do with our millions of newly unemployed? Are they going to become a part of our welfare system? So much for it benefiting us financially. |

Well, America will get more rich, and they dont want to i guess |

They are not lazy. They are almost always very hard working people.
One of the things they work hard at though is breaking US laws on document forgery, fraud, and identity theft.
If I did all those things and got caught, I would not expect to have to pay $1000 down on a $5000 fine and get off with no criminal record, no matter what sad story about financial despair I told to the judge. |

Thats going to tell the other 16million(i don't know the real number but i imagine its alot)people waiting in line doing it the right way "screw you!!!" and also, do you think all the other people in mexico are going to know its only amnesty for the people in already, the rate of illegal border crossings will go through the roof! not to mention each one of theses 16million will be ble to bring family members over,so we're talking close to 50million, not all these illegal are able bodied there will be a fare share applying for social security benifits and probably getting them, thats not much of a tax relif at all i'd say. well basically my opinion is too bad soo sad, it amnesty didn't work the first time we gave it to illegal mexican workers. |

what part of ILLEGAL don't you understand? should they be rewarded for their crime ? why not just grant amnesty to all the murderers and rapists in prison and set them free to become law abiding tax paying citizens? It would be the same difference. I have nothing against LEGAL immigrants. They followed the law. Or maybe we can just do away with all laws and let this be an anarchist nation where anything goes. No taxes, no government , no cops. oh and do a search on our (non)federal (non)reserve and learn the truth about our so called "national debt". The federal reserve is neither federal or a reserve. |

I came to the US as a legal immigrant and consider myself fortunate to have an opportunity to work towards my American dream. I am a pro immigrant, however this policy is a poor compromise approach and its completely unfair to all the Legal immigrants. How can you compromise a simple law --- it's "ILLEGAL" immigrants for pete sake!! |

Do we really want all our new citizens to become citizens because they are law breakers? |

Why should even one illegal alien that didn't respect our laws in the first place...be granted citizenship ahead of even ONE person immigrating here LEGALLY???
Do you think they are more important than the legal immigrants??
Do you think their families are more important than the legal immigrants?
Do you think their NEEDS are more important than legal immigrants?
Do you think they have special rights over the legal immigrants??
Can you name ONE reason why an illegal alien should ever be granted citizenship ahead of a legal immigrant?
Give me one reason why illegal aliens that broke OUR LAWS should not be deported and sent to the back of the line behind ALL LEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW My wife is a legal immigrant, and she and I BOTH have relatives attempting to immigrate here legally.
So why don't you please explain to me in detail why you feel these illegal aliens have more rights or are more important than OUR FAMILIES!!!! |

If they can't speak English that can't follow simple work instructions, plus they can receive Government funded programs (Welfare) as well. I worked in a large grocery store and Mexicans (usually in groups of seven) always paid with cash and their WIC vouchers! The only boost here was they would buy $300 in groceries! |

that's what I'm saying. people keep moaning and complaining that they don't pay taxes. but with this reform bill they will need to pay taxes and they won't be illegal. |

HAHAHAHA Tax Paying? HAHAHAHAHA
Not gonna happen, not in your lifetime! Do you not read what's been proven? They earn the cash here and send it back to Mexico.
Their pay checks support very little America except to sustain life. The rest sustains all their family and the Catholic Church.
Sorry to burst your bubble. |

do you really think all 16 mil will obtain a social? i mean they came here illegally in the first place. furthermore do you really think any government organization can process 16 million people? of course not, to both questions. there ARE legal ways to come here. and there ARE people who come legally. but for those who came illegally, why would you expect them to suddenly follow the rules??????????????
edit** and so now we can see congress no longer represents us!!! the republic is over |

I think it is bad because they are trying to change our ENGLISH language!! and they come here and take jobs that someone else who is suppose to live here's job!! They also are putting the gang level up to a high!! they come here and put there kid in a school so they can drop out and just like there parents!! some (most) are ANIMALS!! I feel very stongly on this subject! I am sorry if I affended any one but the truth HURTS!! = ) |

they are not doing that now!!!! what makes you think they will do it once they are granted amnesty by the bleeding hearts? |

What little taxes they will pay once a citizen will not near cover the government assistance they will receive.
Assuming all come forward, pay their fines and fees and get issued a social security card. Most will work for what? minimum wage? The new minimum wage is 7.25 per hour (of course this will differ from state to state) that is approximately $1200 per month or around $15000 per year... That is considered working poor and will be eligible for earned income tax credits, especially with children involved, so likely they will not be paying much in the way of federal, very little to state and $960 into SS and $217.50 into Medicare PER YEAR. $15000 - $960 - $217.50 = $13822.50 total income after taxes. Some may earn more than this but EIC's (Earned Income Credit) go as high as $34,692 for married workers. How many do you know that will make more than that?
How many government assistance programs do you think $13822.50 per year will entitle you to? Medicaid (yes) Welfare (yes) WIC (yes) Education and clothing vouchers (yes) the list goes on. After we calculate the annual salary minus government assistance do you believe they will be an asset or a liability to the taxpayers? Once they hit the social security system (which is already broken) how do you think we will pay for it all? Now imagine these figures x 12+ million and their familes (at least another 12 million likely tripple that)
Taxpayers pay for all that, we are overburdended as is and you want to add more.
You have seen thousands of selfish Americans on welfare??? Wow, where do you live??? How do you afford to live there, the cost of living must be unreal, that or your exagerating just a wee bit (or a ton) to prove your point? |
|

Do you mean besides the fact that they are ILLEGAL and therefore started their time in the country as criminals? Or the fact that there are thousands of people waiting "in line" to come here legally and these people will be rewarded for jumping in line -- we scowl at people who do this in the movie line, but we're thinking about letting them get away with it for this? What does this say to the people who are patiently waiting? What kind of message does THAT send?? Wouldn't this actually create a lot more problems then it could ever possibly solve? |

Wrong on all accounts. Low wage people in the US don't pay enough taxes to support the U.S. Welfare State, and any money they save goes to Mexico where it is worth far more to their extended families. The crooked government of Mexico is essentially selling cheap labor as a foreign export, to keep the government there from collapsing.
I'd prefer it to collapse and be replaced by a free economy of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Instead, the US economy will be by the US citizens, for the invading nation, and eventually controlled by that invading nation.
Forget Social Security. It's a Socialist Ponzi scheme. Don't count on it showing up for anybody born after 1960, regardless of how many slaves are imported. It's the biggest boondoggle in human history. |

Why would they want to be citizens? They would have to pay taxes. They won't register. |
|

|
Weren't they required to follow some rules before? These illegals don't seem to be to dependable when it comes to rules, past or future.
Your add-on makes a point. No problem with anyone from anyplace who is here legally, working, paying taxes, and being responsible. The U.S. welfare citizens are a different problem unrelated to immigration. |
|

Lisa E
 |
Yeah, and look how well 'LEGALITY' has worked in our favor up to now. As it stands...they CAN apply for greencards, and legal citizenship. Do they do it? They would only continue to do things illegally. You can 'require' them all day. It won't change anything. |

what part of "ILLEGAL" do you not understand? |
|

Debra H
 |
Yeah.., they are all just going to come meekly and apply for their social security number and then just start paying taxes... Ha Good one. Out of that 16 million we will be lucky if 2 million become registered or ever pay taxes.
However that little card will sure come in handy when they want to collect benefits that yo and I slave to contribute to. |

Bring 'em on!

because it's rewarding criminal behavior, and is a slap in the face to people who came here legally and those who couldn't get in |

No. They will make so little income that they will qualify for tax credits. That's going to cost tons. |

Well you do have a valid point that it will bring many people out of the woodwork, but there are two problems A this is no gaurantee, because many who do work work under the table on a cash only basis and sad to say regardless of legal status this will probably continue. It is like hiring your next door neighbors son to cut your lawn. He is a citizen yet you pay him under the table and no taxes get taken out. Really what this solves is idenity theft. Many illegals do pay taxes because they use false SSN to work in the USA and end up getting payroll and other taxes taken out. As for a boost to our economy I really do not think it will. Mainly because before illegals contributed about 3 percent annually to our federal deficit. This will probably be brought down to 1 or 2 percent but we will not profit from it. But like McCain said in the Debate continuing to do nothing about illegals here is a defacto amnesty and we need to do something to bring these people out of the shadows. Nothing good ever happens when you work in the shadows. |

first of all ,let's start with the employer's.they getting hired somehow.
another the employer's take social security, and federal ,and medical out .
so in many way's they are paying ,which they cant never collect.
so the question here is ,who's the crook's ?
the employee just wants to feed their family's ,and provide better lives.
let's quit attacking the Innocent ,and go after the big dog's ,many women are having the baby's at home ,scared to be deported ,and guess what ? the baby is very much a citizen .
let's not be so judgmental,if you not 100% indian ,you dont belong either.
america was build by immigrant's,and ye's that time they where also illegal.
the economy have to do ,who you voted for President ,quit using the illegal's as a scape Goat. |
