Who wants that crap language as our official language. English is the language of this country and always will be. You can go to almost any country in the world and find people who speak english, hell, you can even go to a farm town in mongolia and find those who speak english, but tell me, why can't spanish speaking immigrants learn english? Because this country was started by English speaking people, and many of the people who fought, bled and died for our country at its beginning were English speaking. We have a wonderful country in many ways, and that includes respecting those who speak other languages in it. However, respecting those languages should not mean that America should have to change its official language.

First of all, there is no "official" language of America. American is made up of North, Central and South America. If you are asking why can't Spanish be the official language of the US, then the reason would be that the English-speaking people are the ruling class in the US. If you go to Quebec, you would find that the ruling class speaks French. If you go to Brazil, you would find that the ruling class speaks Portuguese. If you go to Mexico, the ruling class speaks Spanish.

As for the morons who say that the English were the first settlers, so blah on everyone else. Let me give them a tip: Spain was actually here before England. But Spain was NOT here before Native Indians, perhaps the OFFICIAL language of any given country should be the aboriginal people that were there first?

In the mean time: When in Quebec, speak French. When in Brazil, speak Portuguese. When in Mexico, speak Spanish. When in the US, speak English.

I guess the simple answer to that is: (If by America you mean The United States of America) spanish can not be the official language because it was not colonized by Spaniards or Spanish speaking people, so the first language (other than native tongue) would be English for it was the English settlers that colonized USA.
