Can you claim your car insurance if your car needs repairs not caused by an accident?
|
If you have fully comprehensive insurance can you make a claim even though you have not been in a crash or other accident? The car in question has an MOT however it needs extensive repairs and is not drivable. The repairs are going to cost more than the car is worth and so it really just needs to be scrapped or sold for a ridiculously small sum of money to someone who can fix it up. The problem is that there is still a huge outstanding balance for the loan repayment of the car! Can anyone help please?

if your uk based ask your insurers, have done a couple of engines damaged due to being driven through puddles and the insurers have paid for the cost of the engine.
Both insurers were just run of the mill companies.
what's the car, damage and how much do you want? |

No - it would not be covered, and trying to claim it might be considered fraud.
BTW, what is an MOT?? |

No!
And even if you have an accident, they will only pay for those repairs that were caused by the accident!
Why do you have fully comp insurance if the car is a load of junk, as you suggest it is?
Next time you buy a car, get someone who knows about the car to check it out before you hand over your cash. The AA and the RAC both do this. That way, you will not be spending more than the car is worth!
I do not suggest you do someting illegal like parking it, leaving it unlocked with the keys in as it may be stolen. |

i think it would have to be an accident but try calling your insurance company to find out |

if you try to claim it on insurance--that is called insurance fraud. if caught you could, depending on the state you live in , get upto ten years in prison and pay restitution. now what i would do is pay some one to steal the car and torch it, if you have full coverage. the insurance company will pay off the car, or at least most of it. but make sure it is stolen. |

nope...
Insurance is for ACCIDENTAL damage.
To fix of a car... you need a maintenance policy... or to have a RENTAL or LEASED VEHICLE. |

It depends on your insurance policy. It probably won't cover it. You should read you contract. |

Nope, you can't do that! You should have purchased a mechanical breakdown policy but it's too late for that now. Just go SORN until you can save the £££ for repairs. |

You can if your policy covers non-accidental repairs. Call your agent and find out. |

find out, screw the insurane companies do whatever you can to get some of the money you give them back. They ruin everything they put their hands on. Look at Doctor bills in the U.S. Half of the time people pay their entire professional lives never collecting any benefits. But if it does come time to collect, they are not going to let getting what is owed to you easy. |

Hello,
A comprehensive insurance policy covers accident damage, fire and theft. If the cause of the damage is not any of these (which it is not) then you are not covered under your policy.
Any risk you take to actually make a claim could result in not only your claim/policy being voided but also a potential charge of trying to obtain money by deception. |

NO IT WILL NOT COVER VEHICLE REPAIRS NOT CUASED BY AN ACCIDENT. |

did it break due to bad driving, or did you hit an animal?
if you hit a deer and roll your car into a ditch, comprehensive insurance will cover you.. but if you just *** around and hit a tree.. then nope. |

If you are in the uk, you cannot claim. Insurance is for accident damage such as being involved with another car/tree/ wall etc.
Repairs come under 'wear and tear' and are not covered. Also, most insurers wont pay out for a car that has not been looked after anyway - it usually states in your policy that you need to maintain the car in a roadworthy condition. ive rejected claims for damage because the person skidded into a tree and wrote the car off, when we examined the car it was found to have bald tyres. The accident was preventable. if they had they maintained the condition of the tyres they wouldnt have skidded, so no pay out.
a lot of people in this situation decide to make a fraudulent claim and have the car'stolen' and burnt out - insurers are aware of this and will still be able to check the condition of the car - they can tell if it was in good condition or not. Its one of the things they check as so many people claim its been stolen & burnt when its in crap condition.
Same goes for smashing it into a tree to make a claim - they will still check the previous condition of the car, engine etc and will deduct money for poor condition.
How about getting the repairs done with second hand parts - you dont say what needs doing, but if you can get parts from a scrapyard it will reduce the cost a lot.
See if a small independant garage will come nd take a look at it - tell them u want to use second hand parts etc, see if they can give you a quote or advice.
There is nothing you can do about the loan on the car, it has to be paid, you cant get out of it.
And next time you buy a car - get it serviced and repaired when it needs it, dont leave it til it falls apart! |
