Does car insurance rate depend on a car's make and model?
|
I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 1999 toyota camry or a 2003 honda accord and i'd like to know if it makes a difference on the rate depending on year. I also recently got into a car accident that was my fault which i know will obviously increase my rate.

It does depend on make and model but there shouldn't be a big difference between those two cars because they are around the same age and both very common cars with inexpensive parts. If you want to check I believe All-State has a little program on their website that quotes you car insurance without taking any personal information like name or SSN so you can plug your info plus the car models in and check. |

Not so much on your make and model but the year it was built. Cars have readable parts is the issue with insurance companies. If the parts are easily obtained will have a lower rate. Although there are certain cars that are targeted for theft. If a car is let's say 5 years old, the parts are there and the likelihood of it being stolen are slim. |

Both the Toyota and Honda are good cars.... I would ask my insurance agency which one would be cheaper to insure.... I think it would be the newer Honda..... |

Make, model, number of years you have driven, area where the vehicle is garaged, credit score and driving record |

the 03 probably has more safety features, which means more rate deductions,
but if both cars are equally equipped the 99 would be cheaper to insure
also, your credit rating can now be used when figuring your premium |

yes, my 2003 civic is on of the most stolen, so my insurance is higher. Ask your insurance agent which car would be cheaper. It also depends on size of the engine. Style of car. Etc. |

yep but also other considerations such as engine size, the age of the car and the driver |

No,it all depends on how old the vehicle is and what kind of shape its in. It also depends on your driving record. It wouldn't be a different rate if you owned a 1990 Chev than if you owned a 1990 ford. |

Yes, you are insuring the value, a 99 would proably be less expensive to replace then an 03 |

Yes it does make a difference: year, make, model, extras. It will make a difference if you buy a more sporty-type model also. Don't know if this is right, however the 1999 Camry may make a difference in insurance even though it's an older model. Camry's keep there value longer than some other cars even though the difference in year.
It's your money. You'll have to do the leg work and see what you can come up with. You're the one who will be making the deal final. You may wind up looking at totally different makes of cars because of insurance costs.
Good luck in that great big car world out there. Don't worry if your head starts spinning. It will come back to normal after the initional shock's ware off. |

big time!! the newer the car the more expensive to fix also depends on your driving record and where you live. |

Yes, the more a car is worth, the higher your insurance premiums. |

Yes, it depends on the car, how old it is, how much it is worth, how expensive it is to repair, how likely it is to be stolen, etc. Plus, a big factor is where you live. Car in insurance in NYC is very different from car insurance in South Dakota. It also depends on your age, and, as you know, your driving record. Whether or not you are married affects it, too. Here is one a lot of people probably don't know...insurance companies look at your credit score in determining your rates...it doesn't really seem fair, but they equate whether or not you pay your bills to whether or not you are likely to be a bad driver. People with poor credit ratings pay higher insurance rates. You should be able to call your insurance company and ask them the difference in the rates between the two cars. I did that when I recently bought a new vehicle and was surprised to learn that it cost more to insure the minivan I was looking at than the SUV I was looking at. |

a number of things are considered, your age, single or married, auto useage, how many doors, year and model, ............... |

Its does depend on car make and model size of engine, your age, if you are male or female in some states the grade you make in school. If you been through drivers ed it will save you some. But it will be high on you until you are married and over the age of 25. When you do get married you can save a few bucks by putting it in your wife's name. Females are cheaper not that they are better drivers they are not as crazy as us guy's I guess. Shop around on your insurance sometimes you can get a better deal by putting it with you parents insurance company and sometimes not. |

those pieces of information, along with your age, usage of the car (for leisure or for work), your residence (if you're in a high-crime area, etc), will all contribute to how much you pay for insurance. (also whether or not the car is fully owned by you or if you make payments still). |

Insurance rates are based on many factors. Make and model are just two of those factors. Insurance rates are quoted on a personal basis, meaning what someone else pays has nothing to do with how much you will pay. Contact an insurance agent for a quote. |
