thats crap. theyre dual control so how to prove who was at fault would be impossible plus they will be well insured.

No it's not true, they are insured for things like that. some driving instructors will try to rip you off be careful.

Smurfette!
No way!! If he has proper insurance on his car to teach people to drive then his insurance cover the cost! I wuld ring his head office and check this out, while you are on the phone I would arrange for lessons with a different instructor too! I would not want to be taught by someone who is lying to me!

xx

I would have thought his insurance would cover you

No, its the driving school that pays. They are insured for it.

A driving instructor is legally classed as been in control of the vehicle, thats why they cannot use their mobile phone whilst teaching!

The guy sounds like an idiot! Firstly, they are fully insured and secondly, there are 2 people driving that car - you AND him.
You are still learning and therefore he is responsible for taking control if you even come close to scratching it.

If he is not paying attention and lets you get into a situation where you could damage the car then thats his problem. He should always be in control of the car, even when you are driving - thats why there are dual controls.

If I were you, I would change instructors. When you are learning, the last thing you need is added anxiety of paying for a car if you damage it.
As I said, he is an idiot for trying to worry you.
Call the head office and ask if this is true. It will not be .100% !

BSM (British School Of Motoring) are 1 of the top motoring school corporation in the country, and the fact the instructor said this to you is bang out of order, he has a job to do in teaching you to drive and to obey the driving laws, by mentioning to you that you are responsible if you damage that vehicle, this will not help your self-confidence and would become a hazard on the road because you will have that on your mind all the time, bad instructor, report him to head office, ditch them, very expensive anyway.......good luck

car painter
Well i've never heard of that before,if what he's saying is true then i could only assume that you are not fully insured to drive the car in question.if i were you i would'nt drive the car if that is the case.

Andy H
His insurance will pay for any damage, that's what it is there for. Suggest you ring up the head office and report him for making it more stressful than it should be.

There are many more better and cheaper options and after all their initials do mean Bring Some Money.

nope ..you are paying for the service and they are insured. And even if they are not insured its the car owner who is responsible for everything.. Bang it up all you want to.

fiddler
No.Driving schools have to have their vehicles insured for none
qualified drivers.Same as family and friends would have to have
full insurance to allow you to drive their vehicle.

friedach
leaning was the word-I suspect he doesn't like you, or he's playing mind games. get someone else.

If he has third party insurance then yes... but if he has comprehensive insurance like any proper instructor would have then no.

Third party pays for the other car (insurer is first party, you are second party, other peeps are third party). Comprehensive pays for both second and third parties. Any instructor without this must be crazy because they are at risk of accidents all day and how can you get the learner to pay when they're suppose to be teaching them? And... the correct insurance should be in the price of the lessons!
Arrghh... making me angry now........ lol

bert
Certainly not, ring B.S.M.'s head office to complain against this moron, you are paying a lot of money for these lessons, the instructor should put you at ease and not talk rubbish such as this !

Aries24
Ive heard of this one before, its just scare tactics & what some Instructors try to do is, if you have an accident they try to get the pupil to pay the excess on the policy which could be £50/£100 depending on the policy in force at the time which should be Fully Comprehensive. If you are worried than 'phone thier Head Office for confirmation on this, this Instructor needs taking down a peg or two!!.

princess
No!!!
But I wouldn't go with BSM anyway, they're a money-grabbing corporation.
Go to a sole trader instructor who owns their own business, they have more interest in getting you to pass your test as they have more to lose if you don't.

shakermaker
i think hes winding you up, he should be covered by some kind of insurance for being a driving instructor. If hes not covered and you do hit something. Just get outa the car and run lol

I have never heard that before. accidents should be covered by their insurance. check with the main office. if this is their policy I would be tempted to look elsewhere

I would be very surprised if it were. They have insurance to cover accidents. Ring the head office and ask them to put your mind at rest

No that is not true. BSM cars are all insured for learner drivers. Check he is a BSM driving school instuctor.
By the way, the guy is teaching you, not learning you,. You are learning.

I assume you mean learning (with an r) and not leaning, but that is still incorrect - the guy that is teaching you to drive, NOT "the guy whats leaning me to drive". If that is how you speak, then I'm not surprised your driving instructor is taking you for a ride! He obviously thinks you are not very clever and he can take advantage of you.
