You can but you shouldn't. If you get spotted by the Peelers you'll get done. |

Not legally you can't nope. Not likely to be pulled up for it if you do for a couple of days tho. But best to get it done as soon as and not drive it at all if possible. |

your tax disc runs out at the end of the month so you if it shows 31 01 09 have until sunday night to renew it.
That includes doing it online as your code will not work after that, but you can tax your vehicle at the Post Office up to the end of the month your tax is due to start in.
Legally though the offence is not showing a current tax disc, there is no leeway!
I know I was fined for having my tax two days out of date!

Not after midnight. I think you can have a five day deadline but I am not sure. You can of course renew it over the telephone nd they will send a new disc in the post, but even then you can run into trouble for not displaying it because it is in the post. I do not think the "to busy" claim holds water because you could have renewed it up to about 14 days ago |

nope, if you get caught you can get fined and your car can get crushed. i wouldnt risk it |

You do not have any days of grace to renew your road tax, only when you buy it online, you knew it would run out at the end of the month, which is Sunday, so you could have renewed it 2 weeks ago |

The five days you refer to only applies to displaying the tax disc. You do NOT get 5 days grace on taxing it at all. |

Your tax actually expires on Sunday night. If you tax it on line BEFORE it expires you have 5 days grace for the new disc to reach you. If you leave things till Monday you have no period of grace. If you can't get to the PO by Saturday midday perhaps you are too busy to drive anyway |
|

No you cannot - the 5 days applies only if you tax it online. Your tax disc will not run out until Sunday night and post offices are open tomorrow |

No...it is illegal to drive when not taxed |

There is no 2 weeks grace as some others have said previously.
The only way you can drive on an out of date tax is if you applied on-line and it hasn't arrived in the post.
Then I think they give you around 5 days.
Having said that I have sometimes driven whilst being a day or two into the new month just waiting to be paid etc.
Don't get caught, careful where you park and tax it pronto.
By the way Tufty(above) is right. |

You can drive it until 1 second to midnight on the day it runs out, but as soon as midnight arrives it is ILLEGAL to drive it on public roads.
You NEVER had an extra 5 days. |

No you can't, your insurance will be void in an accident and remember that most Police cars now have ANPR fitted. |

Your car tax runs out Sunday. |

Your tax doesn't run out today.
It runs out on the last day of the month, which is Sunday. |
|

Please punctuate properly, folks
 |
It doesn't run out today!
You can get one starting on Feb 1st. Your January expiring tax-disc is valid until 23.59, January 31st, just before midnight on Sunday - so you still have tomorrow and Saturday morning to visit a post-office to tax it.
Drive without tax, expect a large fine, and points, invalid insurance, and your car being seized and crushed. Still TOO BUSY? |

It doesn't run out today. Your tax always runs to the end of the month i.e. 31st of Jan.
So you are fine until midnight on the 31st.
Renew it online or on the phone. Keep the receipt and keep the old disc on display.
You have five days from then that you will be ok to drive with the out of date disc (as long as you have the receipt from the renewal).
You have no exemption if you have not actually renewed it.
