If you do not show you a judgement will be given in favor of the petitioner's claims. By not showing up you are not going to be able to refute any of their claims. If you have zero defense to their claims, it is still important to go so you understand the process of paying what you owe to them.

No, you just lose the argument and get to pay the price.

You'll end up with a judgment that is going to follow your credit for the rest of your life. ANswer the claim, and make a settlement.

I have taken a dozen people to small claims court, and in each, I won the case. One I won because the defendant was a no show. Out of the six, I won an average judgement of $3000 each. So far...I have collected $400. That cost me $600 to collect. NONE of the people I have sued have had their lives altered in ANY way due to their loss in court. Small claims is, truly, a joke. Yes, a judge may award you a specific judgement, some amount that the defendant is ordered to pay but good luck collecting. Most just ignore the judgement, and it costs YOU to collect. I sued a store owner and paid the sheriff's office to go to her business to empty her cash drawer towards the amount she owed me. The sheriff collected about $100, and it cost me about $170, paid to the sheriff's department, to get that. I sent the sheriff after my money half a dozen times, knowing there would be no cash on hand, but I did enjoy disrupting this deadbeat's business day...and in the end I came out almost even...all the while she had to explain to customers why cops were emptying her cash register. So...you didn't go to answer a small claims order? I hate to say this, but don't sweat it. You were WRONG not to go, but will it hurt you...follow you around...ruin your life?...Not likely. Not AT ALL likely. Just try to do right, or do like most do and ignore it. Unless you plan to run for public office or will need to be vetted for some other type of position, you'll be fine.

That was a big mistake to miss the court date. If it has already come and gone, the judge found for the other party. This allows the other party to go after your wages through garnishment or even place a lien against you. You should probably contact the people and try to work something out. Usually, there is a hefty interest amount involved for non-payment and it would be easy to take a 1000.00 debt up to a couple thousand because you don't want to be bothered. If they are serious, they will come after you for the money.

You will lose the judgment, have collection agencies hassling you, ruin your credit rating and have a hard time renting another apartment since this will be on your rental record. You may also find your paycheck garnished.

In the end if you breach a contract and you fail to pay and you fail to pay following the verdict and you get the bailiffs knocking on your door, your name will have a negative credit marking and getting a mortgage later in life may be difficult.
