Find answers to your legal question.

I got caught shoplifting, what is gonna happen?

I got caught stealing, what is gonna happen?
**WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GOING TO JUVENILE HALL?
---If i do go, how long would it be for?
*What are my chances of just getting fined, probation & community service since its my first time?
PLEASE, i am scared out of my mind and i have been crying for a few hours and i haven't eaten for a day

story:

I got caught by macy's for shoplifting and just the macy's stuff was in my bag and it was worth $369, i had other stuff in my bag that my friend stole (she stole from the outside stores like forever 21 and such, and that probably added up to 200) and she didn't get called in cause she wasn't holding anything, they took me to the back room than from there i went with the cops to the police station, then they asked me a bunch of questions and i sat at one of the officers tables cause the investigation room was filled, than they made me write a statement, (i was really close to going to juvenile hall) but i told them the truth and i didn't go. they made me write another statement and let me go, they cited me (gave me a ticket) and now i have to go to court.
What is gonna happen when i go to court? will i go to juvie from there?
This is my first account for shoplifting, i am sixteen, i live in the state of California and i have never ever been convicted of a crime before.
Will I have to get a lawyer?

Please help me, I am very heartbroken right now.
I regret everything I did and I have learned my lesson

Please do not give me random answers like

*Uh Oh
*Naughty girl
*We hate people like you
*Stop stealing

And such, I am being serious here, please help me, I'm scared, this is my first time
Which degree of burglary will i be charged for? is this serious?
Someone said the death penalty, is that true?

Is it burglary with pliers used to remove tags? just wondering..
What is going to happen since i was holding my friends stolen items

AND yes all of the stolen items were recovered.

you might not go to jail or anything like that they might say do not shoplifted again

why don't you try 2 rise $369

jorge b
dont worry first time is just banned from all the macy's store the shame community service $ 1,000 fine.

is just humiliating being banned from one of the most important stores, ur face will be in all computer they'll kick you out of the store =P just that, but look the bright side there are more stores to discover =D

Sorry if I knew the answer ,I still wouldn't tell you because I think that you should have to sweat it out for what you did. This way, you will think about it before you are tempted to do it again.

water_skipper
If you had pliers to remove tags, that proves your crime is premeditated so you should definitely expect punishement for theft. It's not burglary because you were in the store legally. By holding the items your friend stole, you are also an accomplice to her theft. If you want the mininimum sentence, don't bother hiring a lawyer. Just plead guilty and tell the judge you admit you did something horrible. If you fight these charges when everyone knows you did it, you'll just make yourself look like an idiot and they'll throw the book at you.

You need to calm down. Being your first time you could end up on probation with having to pay the money for all the stolen goods that was taken and you could end up doing community work in having it apart of such. You do need an attorney and if you cannot afford one then the court will appoint you one before the hearing starts. Everyone makes mistakes and the law is just wanting you to become a better person then this in having a successful life ahead.

preston uk
You will probably get fined about $500 and may be banned from the shop, depending on their decision, but it will definitely be a problem since the price of the stolen is $369.

Charles
This probably wasn't the first time you stole, only the first time you got caught. I just hope you learned a lesson here and don't do it again. We have to pay for you and your friend for stealing. We pay the department stores, the police, the courts and the Dept. of Corrections. I hope they give you a big fine so you pay for others to steal and we don't have to.

¡Hola!
I'm glad you have learned that what you did was very wrong.
You have to realize that adults go to jail for this kind of stuff. Especially when you stole stuff worth that much! Yes, there is a chance you could go to juvi. Since it's you first time being caught doing something, they may just charge you a fine and community service, You could get anywhere from 100-150 hours of community service.

Yes you'll have to get a lawyer because you're going to court. Tell the lawyer everything, and that you regret it a lot and you would NEVER do anything like that again and tell him all your feelings and whatnot.

Also, as bad and like...crap...I forgot the word...like...judgmental... If you look like a sweet little girl they might go easier on you than if you had like tattoos and colors hair and things of the sort.

What they do to you will depend on the judge and the arguments for and against you. You will not get the death sentence, although you may have to go to juvi for awhile =/

You will probably be fined...at least the cost of the merchandise but probably more. and community service probably if they don't send you to juvi...

Because you were carrying your friends items as well, you are going to be held responsible for them. Even if she was the one who took them, they were in your bag so therefore the law assumes you took them (stupid but that's how it is).

I don't know the degree of burglary or anything...but yeah...it's kinda serious. It's a bad thing to do...I'm not trying to lecture you. I want you to be okay and not have anything happen to you...Tell me what happens if you can afterward.

Also, you dont't have to answer but I'm just curious...what were you taking that equalled $300 and what did your friend have that was $200? And how did it all fit in your bag?

Also you'll probably be banned from at least Macy's for the rest of forever and possibly Forever 21 and wherever you had things from in your bag,

Restitution, community service, probation and banned from that mall.
Now you complete your service and stay out of trouble and you will be fine. Any further screw ups and then off to juvie

Nick
First off, depends on how old you are, second you will have a criminal record wich will not help at all to get into schools. I can not answer this, it sort of depends on alot of things.

if im not mistaken... you will just be put on probation... and you will prolly have to pay all them back plus court cost... my friend was 17 when caught for shopliffting... and he has 750 dollars worth of stuff... he just got put on probation and had to do some community service... good luck... and we live in tn... it also depends on the laws of your state!

MungoChuck
If you mentioned your friend it should onley be or short time in jail , or a short while of doing community services

This is what will happen for real you will probably get fined, but no you will not go to jail or get executed although that answer was pretty funny. You will get a warning an no lawyer is necessary this offense will be a slap on the wrist, but do not steal again or that s h i t will go down. So don't do it again.

J
the death penalty ha ha ha god i hope so!!!!

This was premeditated and it won't go lightly! I would imagine that you will get a bunch of things, like community service and such but that would be after you spend 6 month in Juevy! I assumed you learned a lesson here!

Jill :)
ouchh, you'll probably get a huge fine, possibly juvinille hall, or it can go on your record, i think thats a felone.
but im not sure, im juist guessing what would happen.

:/

Maverick

You'll probably be fined and have some community service. Cali is a little lenient about stuff like that. Around here, you'd get a few nights in jail.
Why were you shoplifting in the first place? If you don't have money get a job, if you want money and don't want to work, go jump in a lake.

*Uh Oh
*Naughty girl
*We hate people like you

?
Community service and a slap on the wrist. If you do it when you are an adult your juvenile record will come back on you and you can be prosecuted for it and added to a sentence.
