I posted that I am looking for an office assistant job on craigslist and someone responded to my post but I think its a scam:

Receive, edit, and process incoming customer telephone, email, and faxed orders in a timely manner.
Enter both customer requests and the completion information of those requests into an order processing system with minimal errors.
Receive, evaluate, and answer customer and sales issues, inquires, and correspondence in a timely manner, including product feature, price and shipping information.
Support and resolve customer inquiries, including Return Authorizations, Repair Authorizations, requests for catalogs, and provide follow-up to assure satisfaction.
Ensure correct entry of price, shipping and other key information for products timely and accurate shipment.
Answer internal and external customer telephone calls both at the customer service desk and rotation at the switchboard, routing calls as necessary with some overhead paging.
Assist with Reception coverage for lunch, break and absences.
Print, fold and apply postage to invoices and statements.
Complete catalog and literature mailing to include cover letter, envelopes and postage.
Maintain accurate customer files.
Maintain supply cabinet including ordering office and printer supplies as needed.
Qualifications:
Required
High school diploma or GED
Two years experience in customer service.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and initiative.
Excellent verbal and written skills in the English language.
Typing 35 WPM.
Ability to use a standard email system such as Lotus Notes or MS Outlook including calendar management and updating database properties.
Excellent attendance record including job stability.
Ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite including Access, basic internet knowledge and order entry experience.
Ability to sit for up to three hours at a time without an extended break.

looks like a legitimate job offer. I wonder how you are going to maintain the supply cabinet and cover for receptionist if you are working from home. Wage seems pretty hiigh for job description. but if you are working from home that might explain it. You may check with BBB for the company's status with them. you could also see if there is a web site for Derby. See if they have a listing |

Call the Better Business Bureau in THEIR city and give them the numbers these people provided. They can tell you if they are registered with them. They can also tell you if there have been any claims against that "company."
Please tell us you did NOT post your personal info. such as date of birth, Social Security, Driver License ID, etc. on the internet.
A red flag came up when they did not give you a DEFINITE method by which your assignments would be set to and returned from you. BEWARE! This sounds like a scam. |

Probably a scam.
Clues:
They feel obliged to say they are BBB registered. Why would they say that unless they're trying to lull you into a sense of security?
Googling ABC Lakeside Painting Derby NY doesn't come up with their website. And I'm not about to take a chance on a virus by bringing up that website.
yellowpages.com doesn't list them.
Salary is out of line high for an entry level job
How does someone working online rotate at the switchboard or assist with reception coverage during breaks and lunches?
Sounds like the "job" will be mailing out literature and hoping someone buys something, or sending out spam emails. Or even worse, they'll send you checks and tell you to cash them and wire them part of the money and keep the rest - the check will bounce later, and you'll be out whatever you wired.
It's after 3 pm now, so I guess you either talked to them or didn't. If you did, and agreed to work for them, be very careful, and don't put in any of your own money. |

Personally I wouldn't trust anything from craiglists what so ever. You just don't know who your really speaking to. I would look in your area for a job to be on the safe side. Companies in your town or neighboring towns that you know and might know people who work there. Check for a career center in your area that could help you find a job that fits your abilities. |

Did you go to their web site? Did you check the BBB? Do not give any info on line or on the phone, like SS# Make sure they send you a W-9, or a 1099 form for tax purposes. They must have a Federal ID# on those forms.
If they are real, there is a public record of there business in City Hall.
Take the time to check them out. |

I would be leary of it, too much like a scam to me since everything is online. And how much they pay is way more than what most people pay for those kinds of jobs. |

It's almost certainly a scam. The website looks legitimate but I couldn't find Lakeside Painting in the yellow pages. The website gives a phone number. I called. It doesn't sound like a legitimate business number. An announcement just says leave your name and number. Almost every business I've ever called answers with their business name.
If you choose to pursue it don't give out any personal information such as a social security number, date of birth, etc. that could be used to steal your identity. Don't give them any money or a credit card number. |

Sorry to inform you, but yes...SCAM!!!!!!! spoke to the owners on the phone provided on the BBB page and the couple was in SHOCK! couldnt believe that someone was using their bus. for fraud... |

It sounds like a scam to me. First of all, $25 an hour is much higher than is typically paid for this type of position. Second, when they describe the pay as 25$ an hour, that indicates it is someone foreign (the $ after the number is common overseas). Third, someone who wants to do the interview by yahoo messenger is planning to install a key logger to get your keystrokes or to plant a virus on your system. Fourth, no one would describe 3 PM New York Time. If it was here, they would use Eastern Time.
If you want to apply for a job with this organization, independently search their website (use Verizon to see if there is a phone number) and call and verify if they have an opening. If the job is legitimate, they will appreciate your caution.

YES!!!!!!!!! I KNOW THIS IS A SCAM!!!! Not only am I Farrah E Willis, I am the actual owner of ABC Lakeside Painting! I have never had an instant messenger, my company does not sell merchandise, we are not an online company, thought we do have a website which is listed on this fraud ad, as well as the phone numbers are all correct too. I was made aware of this situation from my BBB rep this morning who was so disturbed by the situation that she has been investigating all day to find the culprit who is trying to destroy the business We have worked so hard for. |
