How much notice do I need to give legally?

I'm being overworked, I've made this point to my bosses and they are not doing anything except working me more.
I would like to say I am only available for work mon, tues, wed starting immediately.
Can I do this?

Thanks for your responses, I know I'm not at risk of getting fired.. I'm just going to put it in writing that I can only work certain days and if they schedule me for more then I will give my 2 weeks notice.. work it, and then done.
I'm in the healthcare field, sometimes working 2 24 hour shifts a week, plus the regular work week! It's been crazy, and they are not required to pay overtime... apparently!?
Anyone know where I can find this info online? I live in Alberta.

You can - but your bosses might think it's a reason to get rid of you and hire someone who is just happy to have a job. So it would be a good idea to have a better job lined up.
Most people expect to work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
If you're thinking of quitting, it is reasonable to give as much notice as you can. If you have an employment contract it will be spelled out how much notice you are to give, otherwise I guess it depends where you live. It's unlikely the employer would sue you unless you have a really high end job.

You can change your availability I don't see why not. Just make sure you work the days they have scheduled you so far and tell them to schedule you only on your available days for the next schedule. good luck

i would put the notice in writing and allow two weeks. whatever the issue for your extra hours would obviusly take some time to solve.

No, you cannot do it legally. Even if you are a part time employee, it is up to the discretion of the company (bosses) to determine the hours and days for working, not the employees. Unfortunately, there are bosses who take advantage of their employees and that leaves you with two choices: Either bear with it or resign from your job. You didn't state the type of work you do or how long you work, so it is hard to ascertain whether you are overworked or not. If you decide to resign, give at least two weeks notice.

It's tricky. You can always change your schedule. However, they can also say that schedule doesn't work for them, at that point you'll either have to work what they tell you or quit. Do what's best for you.

What were the terms of your employment? I don't think this is a legal issue but they may fire you if you aren't able to fulfill your obligations. Do you care if you are fired?

Sadly because the job market stinks so bad, employers are able to work us employees very very hard. There aren't many options for us.

Then, if you are contracted to work till 4pm, you leave then. If they try to stop you, tell them you are paid to work till 4 - and am now leaving to go do other things. If they would like you to work longer, they can let you know so you can arrange to stay later and that you would like the extra pay as well.

You can and they can (and more than likely will) say "see ya". You work for them not the other way around.

Unless you're under a contract that says differently, you're what is termed an at-will employee. That gives you the right to quit at any time for any reason. Your employer has the right to let you go for any reason that does not violate certain federal and state statutes.
