Minimum wage for anything but full-time adults is 6.15 for larger companies.(Ones who makes over 600,000.) It is 5.25 for smaller companies. Most state laws are iffy about probational periods, so I wouldn't count it out. |

That's illegal. You should tell him to change it to $7.25 or you will bring it up to the authorities and he should do it right away. |

She is taking advantage of you because you are young. It is illegal to get less than the minimum wage. Minimum means the very least. I have never heard of getting paid less than the minimum for 90 days. |

It depends on where you live. I live in Australia and if you look up the award wage they are paying you under, it does say under a certain age they can pay 80% 90% etc. You're better off asking your employer what the wage rate is called and searching on google to find it. |

Trust me it is legal. I have been working since I was 15. I am now 18. Until you are 18 they do not have to pay you min wage. There is nothing you can do about it. |

This is from the federal dept of labor website: http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs32.htm - sounds like the manager is correct, for 90 calendar days. |

Sorry. Certain employees and establishments are exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime provisions. Exemptions include certain agricultural workers, executives, administrative and professional employees; employees of educational, charitable, religious and other non-profit organizations where the employee is working as a volunteer; employees of restaurants, cafes, drive-ins, taverns, and drug stores which sell food and drink for consumption on the premises where the annual gross is less than $250,000, employees of motion picture and drive-in theaters; employees under 16 years of age working less than 20 hours per week; outside salesmen and individuals compensated on a commission basis; individuals 62 years of age and working not more than 25 hours a week; employees of establishments engaged in the first canning, packing or freezing of fruits, vegetables, poultry and seafood; the immediate family of the employer; those employees enrolled in a special educational program and non-administrative employees of organized camps. |

it depends on the state...but i know in michigan the labor laws state that if you are under 16 (i think...maybe even 18) that employers can pay you as low as 80% of minimum wage and by law if you are in school you can only work 20 hours a week. |

Your boss is right, except it is for anyone under 20 years of age. If they keep you after the 90 days they are required by law to pay you full minimum wage.

YES it is legal
What is the youth minimum wage?
The youth minimum wage is authorized by Section 6(g) of the FLSA, as amended by the 1996 FLSA Amendments. The law allows employers to pay employees under 20 years of age a lower wage for a limited period -- 90 calendar days, not work days -- after they are first employed. Any wage rate above $4.25 an hour may be paid to eligible workers during this 90-day period.
