Find answers to your legal question.

Isn't there a federal law against working 7 days a week?

I have been working 40 hours a week till now. Now they are scheduling me 7 days a week 8 hours a day. I know in Florida, there really are no labor laws. But what about Federal?

There are lots of laws both State and Federal, there are also lots of Penitentiary's too. I guess not all laws are willfully followed.

not if you are doing it voluntarily. i mean, you dont like working those hours and days, but you do it, don't you? you have the freedom to quit, but your boss knows that you wont. he therefore schedules the heck outta you.

none. they can work you around the clock as long as you get a break every four hours and a food break every six hours.

I'm not sure if it's Federal, but in CA you go to doubletime after 13 straight days w/o a day off.

Oh, wouldn't that be nice? No, as long as you are being paid correctly, they can work you until you drop. If you are paid by the hour, you must be paid OT per state and Federal law (more on this at www.dol.gov.)

If you are in a salaried exempt role, you are technically "on the clock" 24/7 and can be expected to work accordingly.

They are not bright, but they are not breaking Federal law IF they are paying you time-and-a-half for hours in excess of 40 per week.

Nope up to 7 days and 12 hours a day

You have to be paid overtime but there is no limit on what you can work unless there is a union dictating what can happen. My husband works 60 hours a week. It is not illegal just exhausting.

If you are a non-exempt employee then you should be paid overtime (1.5x your hourly wage).

No. There are no federal laws against this.

Good question.

Depends on the type of work.

Also, if they are paying you overtime pay for the hours worked over 40 hours a week, it's generally legal.

Of course, you do have the right to seek other employment if this job isn't right for you.

as long as you are over 18 federal law does not regulate how many hours and does not mandate any breaks unless the job is one of those where hours can constitute a health or safety risk (example: mining operations). those jobs are designated by the secretary of labor.

only if your under 18. but why would you be complaining about getting too many hours? your the one that applied for the job and your getting paid so whats the problem?

With the job market the way it is right now you would probably get fired if you raised dissent. But then you could get unemployment if you've worked there long enough. In California where I live you have to work and make $1200 before you can get unemployment.

I'm pretty sure that they have to pay you OVERTIME for anything over 40 hours and I believe that's federal but don't quote me. But if you remind them about the overtime they might cut your hours back or they might cut them off. If you're a "valuable team member" then go for it, especially if you are making the company at least $50-100 an hour and you're getting $10 or so per hour.

The person to ask all these questions would be the Labor Commissioner for your town. If they are abusing you he will be able to file the necessary papers to have them pay you what they SHOULD be paying, but with Jeb as governor and jobs as tough to get as they are right now you may not get far but the Labor Commissioner will have all the answers and all the power you need.

Good luck ... but be ready to duck :-)
