She Just asked me to work at the weekend, i work for my dad most weekends though and I dont want to let him down as he has nobody else, she said "well you need to come in,tell him you cant make it" what should I do?? I get €4 extra an hour with my dad aswell...

In my opinion i wont mind helping my boss , only if it is appreciated. i think money is not important to work.
but if my boss takes this for granted , and asks me every weekend to work i will straight forward refuse to compromise my extra earnings and family relations |

it might be easier for your dad to understand than for your boss...so tell your dad the problem and that you must take an unintended breather to keep your work because your work boss says so..
your dad will always be there for ya..but your work might take off for the flimsiest reasons... im sure he'll understand..especially if you'll bring home something he loves to munch.. |

Just tell her no and that you have other commitments. If it wasn't your Dad that you worked for she'd understand. Just be firm because if youn bend on this once it could happen again. |

If you are not contracted to work weekends, then refuse unless your Boss pays you double time. |

In the US you can't force overtime- however, by not showing up you could create ill will- and be fired for another reason !! |

If it's not required in your contract for you to work on weekends, then don't. In my opinion, family always comes first. You can always get another job, but you can't replace your dad when he's gone. You can ask your dad if he really needs your help this weekend. If he doesn't, then fine, go work with your boss. But if he does, then your boss has to come in second. Good luck! |
