Depends.
Do you have anything to leave? If so, then you should have a will that specifies where and how you want your possessions left.
If you have a spouse and/or children, you should certainly have a will.
There are a lot of online websites where you can fill out a simple will online for a very low cost. Just make sure it's tailored to your state's requirements.
Oh, and make sure you have enough life insurance to cover the cost of your funeral, should anything happen to you. And make sure the beneficiary under the insurance policy is actually the person who is going to bury you! |

it depends on what you have.
if you dont have any prized possessions then no.
if you do yes.
always get a lawyer to fill these things out.
so everything goes smooth. |

If you die without a will, your assets - car, bank accounts, clothing, etc.
will automatically go to your next of kin.
That's spouse, children, parents, siblings, in that order.
If you aren't married and have no kids, then your parents get it.
If your parents are deceased, then your siblings get it.
If you want your stuff to be distributed some other way, then write a will.
Get a form online or at an office supply store, or get a lawyer.

It depends on what you have to offer. For example, a millionaire who is eight definitely needs a will. However, a homeless person who is ninety does not need a will. |

I was interested in this question because I am 21. I have reasoned it out at follows.
It seems that a will is for significant assets such as estates, property, money, or anything else of high value. If you have kids, then the will would probably say who should take care of them.
Being as I am in college, am young, and still am dependent on my family, a will is completely unnecessary. I have no assets. Even if I had a steady job, my savings would be so insignificant.
Get a will if you have something of great value that may be contested over by your family. If you're like me and still live with your immediate family, or rely on them for college funds, then I do not think a will is necessary. |

Age has nothing to do with making out a will. The questions to ask are "Do I have anyone to provide for?" Child, a pet, and "Do I have any thing of value?" bank account, car, house.
A will is your instructions to the probate court about the guardianship of your children and pets and also the distribution of your assets. Money, car, house etc.
If you do not have a will then the state where you live will decide what will happen to your children, pets, money, car house, etc. The state law may not send everything to the people that you think should get them. Check the law and if you do not like it you will need to write a will.
If you buy life insurance at 21 you will geta a very low rate.
I bought a 10 year paid life policy when I was 21 and now it has more than doubled in value because of the dividends that are paid on paid up life insurance. |

YES! Even if you have very few assets, it will make settling the Estate that you do have SO much easier for your family.
Whether or not you do write up your Will, consider an even more important document: Power of Attorney for Health Care.<<<<<
Good job for thinking of this! The answer is yes, write up your Will.
Laws regarding this vary state to state.

THE best way to find a lawyer is by word of mouth. Ask your: family, friends, coworkers, anyone you might know in the same situation, etc.
OR
Call your local (usually county) bar association. Ask for names of attorneys that handle Wills. (If money is a BIG problem, you could also ask for the phone number of your local LegalAid office. - the attorneys at LegalAid are "real" attorneys, but sometimes in the field of Law, how much you are willing to pay does affect the quality you get.)
When you call the law office(s), insist on speaking with the Lawyer. Do not tell all the little details of your matter to the Secretary - save the details for the Attorney. When you get the Lawyer on the phone line, ask him/her:
-Do they give FREE, initial consultations? (most do, but not all - you have to ask, don't assume)
- How much do they charge?
- Could you make payments on your account?
-Can they help you? OR Refer you to someone who can help you?
Good luck.
(This is based on my knowledge, information, belief, and life experiences. This was intended as personal opinion, and not intended to be used as legal advice. Seeking advice over the Internet is not a good idea - the field of Law is too complex for that. Please be careful and do your research.) |
