Hard to say. They could fire you. And if they do, find another job. |

Yes you can get fired for too many absences at work. Twenty three vacation days in a 4 month period is excessive. It would be easier for your boss to fire you and hire a replacement than to schedule everyone else around your vacation schedule. The fact that you work part time does not mean that it is okay to take a lot of days off. Taking time off means that your boss needs to arrange coverage so that someone else can work your shift. You're asking your boss to do a lot of juggling for you. I'm sure that some of your coworkers would like a few days off for the holidays.
At-will employment is a doctrine of American law that defines an employment relationship in which either party can break the relationship with no liability, provided there was no express contract for a definite term governing the employment relationship and that the employer does not belong to a collective bargaining group (i.e., has not recognized a union). Under this legal doctrine:
“any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work. You might find that your job is no longer waiting for you in January. |

I have a staff of 12 people and i only need 6-8, and i do this so that i can have flexible schedules for my employees. Some bosses like to keep only 1 person extra and are much more strict. |

If it's a pert time job, you're not legally under any contract to work full time hours.
So it all comes down to your boss.
Is he a nice guy who's willing to let you have that much time off?
It also depends on your work schedule. When are you supposed to be working?
I would ask you to consider carefully before taking this much time off work however,
in my opinion, unless your boss is an incredibly cold hearted man, you won't get fired. But you won't get paid either , so yeah, keep that in mind.
Happy holidays :D |

It depends, did you have medical cert? Unless some bosses are very understanding, they don't usually see birthdays as relevant excuses. As a part timer, prob they won't mind so much. What's the schedule like for part time? I heard in other countries it's much shorter. so good! |

It's up to your boss:unless you presented these dates when you was hired I see no problem with your events taking place. Sounds like you make more loot in recreation. |

It appears you don't want to work weekends period. You are asking for all Saturdays in October, and are willing to work only 2 weekends in November and December, but then take off the remainder of the month due to holidays when most likely will be needed the most.
Just because they have others to call upon means nothing, since once they get a wind of this, they will be asking for time off also and then there will be no one to work.
For many of the events, you could possibly work but around it. Your uncle's party does not last all day. What the heck is ladies day, never heard of that one. Does your family celebrate birthdays all day for 2 days?
The camping trip is legitimate and if a bunch of you are going to the races on 12/12 would be ok. But to take off for more than 2 weeks during the holidays would most likely be the final straw, since most likely your fellow employees want time off also, be it for a day or 2, not 16 days.
Since you are only 16, suggest you just quit so you can do this. But when you get serious about working, then you will need to get serious about scheduling time off around your work and your personal time. |

do you have annual leave to take; and if so, does this all fall within the annual leave you have left?
if not; you probably won't get fired, but i'd imagine your boss will probably say no to at least some of those dates, especially the ones around christmas/new year
they do seem to be mostly weekends, which if you're only 16 is probably the only time you work; this won't look brilliant to a boss looking for a dependable employee |

You CAN, but it's unlikely they'd fire you for asking. But if they say no to any of the days and schedule you to work then, and you don't show up, they'd probably fire you.
They don't have to give you the days off just because you ask for them. And they probably won't give you other hours in those weeks either. I'd go through the list and cut it about in half - with all those days requested off, it really looks like you don't really want the job. |

you are part-time and can work very limited amount due to your school schedule and NOW you want off almost every Saturday and some Sundays for the next 2 months and in addition you want off the entire Christmas break........
if you are NOT fired you SHOULD be. you obviously don't care about anyone but yourself......
you need to decide if you need a job or not, if you don't need one then quit and let someone who appreciates the opportunity to work have it.......
minors such as you are why it is so hard for other minors to get a job. most employers get tired of fooling with these kinds of ridiculous request and limitations........
let me be clear i did not work while school was in session when i was younger (because i had other things to do, football, classes, dances, etcetera...) BUT i worked as much as possible, sometimes 3 jobs, EVERY summer to earn my spending money.
school and the activities that surround it are important, family and the time with it is important as well......
so, if you are NOT able to commit to working then quit..............
when you are ready to commit to something other then your personal life go out and find a job........... |
