i borrorwed a vehicle from a supplier and my employer says its gross misconduct and i should be fired?

Hello,

I live in the US and i really have never seen goodness shown to me this
much in my life as i am a struggling mum with three kids and i have been going
through really rough times in my life and my name is Helen
Peters and in all this hard times, a worse incident occured in my life as i
lost my job which was my only means of survival and things became really bad as
i had bills to pay and my last son suffered a knee injury incurred when he fell
from a tree house and the doctors informed me that he needed a surgical
operation for his knee so he could walk again and at this point, life was
useless to me as i have no family and no one to run to and each night, i will
sit down and cry till the break of dun until one day, i read an advert on yahoo
answers of man that stated that he could help people in my shoes with loans and
in my desperate situation, i had no choice but i had to try and so shocking and
suprising, it was like an impossibility becoming a reality, i got a loan of
$75,000 USD even with my bad credit within 48 hours and my sons surgery was done
and thank GOD it was successful and now, i am okay and living in comfort with my
kids and i said to my self, i have never ever seen this kind of wonder in life
and i decided i will tell it to the whole wild world and i need every one to
thank GOD for Mr Patrick Harvey, the man GOD used to rescue me and my family
even when all hope had been lost and gone and i will say to every one, no matter
how dark and sinful the world is today, there are still GOD fearing and reliable
people on earth and if you are in my former situation or require a loan

Next time, best to ask your boss if its okay. Especially if its a supplier.

Obviously it was unwise, to say the least, but the bottom line is; would your boss fire you because of it, if you were a valued employee, or is it an opportunity to get rid of you?

there is no free lunch.
what is the favour you are going to return back to supplier?
Once you accept the free gift from supplier, you are going to become a liability to your compnay.
Your supplier may increase the price, and you can switch it due to you own them a favour.
serious, go and apologise and return the vehicle.

What you did was on the wrong, and yes your employer is right for considering this a misconduct and yes you could be fired. Maybe you need to get a proper advice from the HR office.

there is a potential conflict of interest here, and you are supposed to be independent in fact and in appearance

as it stands, the supplier has given you a favour (loaning a car to you for free) and persumably either they hope to get favour from your company thru you in the future, or they might have already received favour from your company thru you (as might be perceived by your boss or others)

now, try to explain, clarify, apologise to your boss...and hope he gives you another chance to stay

Hi, look at it this way, if you supplied a benefit to a client or supplier that wasn't strictly legit would you be expecting a benefit in return, even a little one?? Maybe in the future, like when contracts are being renewed or a heads up if a better price is supplied by a competitor.

At the end of the day this company will be putting the costs into the 'Bribe the Customer' column of the accounts. I'm not saying they said I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine, but that is what they are hoping.

As far as the situation with the boss is concerned, there is a few things you could do, depending on your relationship. Apologise, say you were an idiot and didn't think the situation through, and didn't mean any harm. If there is more trouble than you can get out of easily I'd go get legal advice, before any action is taken against you.

Your boss thinks that it could be a conflict of interest The way they look at it is if it smells fishy,then its fishy...You might not have done anything wrong but if its against the company's rules the i suggest you apologize and hope it all go's away..good luck

You took a benefit from a supplier. Most companies would consider that misconduct. Whether you claim not to have done any favours is irrelevant, you left the possibility open, and that is the problem.

I'm not sure if firing would always be the punishment, but it certainly could be.

You were taking a benefit from a supplier, whether or not you did any favours in return is irrelevant.
