You have so much money you don't know what to do with it all?

Everyone hates you -- At least until they need you.

The grinches heart looks big by comparison?

Lawyers are seen as evil in the media scheme of things. But you get well paid, and in the end thats ALL THAT MATTERS.

All the lawyer jokes!!

Actually, my husband is a lawyer. I think it really depends upon what kind of law you choose to practice.

If you're going to be a public defender, for example, are you SURE that you could defend someone to the best of your ability if you actually thought he/she was a real scumbag? Are you ready to go into some REALLY icky places to meet with your clients? Because you'll HAVE to, if you choose this field.

Ask yourself some questions, and think about it.

Stress and constantly being placed in tough situations that your expected to come out of. Good salary but the physical and mental toll isn't worth the effort, unless it's been a life-long passion of yours.

either you can be a rich lawyer and sell your soul to evil spirits, or you can be a lawyer who works to get equality/good for people but you'll be very poor and have lots of student loan debt.

Read philalawyer.net

It is a blog written by a lawyer about how awful it is to be a lawyer.

The pay is not always good- some lawyers do not make a lot of money however some do. They also work A LOT! If you are not into working long hours then don't do it.

You are untrusted by more people than otherwise. You will be accused of legal malpractice. The area of law that you are successfully practicing in can be turned completely upside down by an act of Congress.

Legal liability, if you deal with family law it is depressing, if you work for a business they might want you to figure out how to get around the law or hide things, lawschool is expensive and you don;'t get paid while you are doing the extra school time. You still won't get paid higher than some other white collar jobs.

Depends on the kind of law. But generally you work extremely long hours. You get very frustrated because it's often more about who plays the best game than justice. The constant drive to get billable hours drives you nuts because you feel like you are over billing. If you work solo practice, you have no benefits, usually. There's also a lot of pressure. If you screw up, you can really mess up someone's life. Lots of responsibility.

Getting paid well didn't make up for the negatives. It's baloney that you have to sell your soul, lie all day etc. It is true that people see you in a very negative way, unless you are representing them.

I did social security disability law, helping disabled people get the benefits Reagan's policies denied them. So I was helping people in real need. But I needed reliable income and benefits.

Personally I liked the reading and summarizing. But whether that's what you do all the time or not depends on the kind of law. It's not what my boss does. (I do all the reading and writing for her.)

A few years after I finished law school they did a survey and found the vast majority of lawyers were very unhappy in their work. The happy ones were the people teaching law and legal aid lawyers.
