Do Navy SEALs get to choose the team they're placed in?

So, I've done a little bit of research on the US Navy SEALs as they have always interested me. From the information I've gathered, SEALs are gathered into a total of 10 teams as of 2010: SEAL Team 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (since renamed), 7, 8, 10, and DVT 1 & 2 which have since been merged as SDVT 1 in 2007). According to the information I've gathered, each team has a specific operational area, i.e. Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Europe, etc.

If a person successfully became a Navy SEAL, does he have the option of choosing which SEAL Team to join? Do members of a certain SEAL Team (say SEAL Team 2 whose operational area is Europe) ever get deployed into another operational area outside of their own (say Central and South America which is normally the operational area for SEAL Team 4)?

They usually put you where they need people. For example, if there is one opening on Team 5 and three openings on Team 8, they will most likely put you on Team 8. However, if there is not such a clear need for operators, I would assume they would ask you what languages you are most proficient in, and assign you to a team who's Area of Operations (AO) has those languages. Being that I was a PJ, I was ordered to go all over the place, but I have friends who are SEALs on various teams and they all know several languages.
