In regards to quote stating that if we don't fight the terrorists in Iraq, we'll fight them over here in the US instead.
Do you agree or disagree? and why do you agree or disagree?
thanks

last time we had a civil war was over slavery--so no...I don't believe there is any truth to it. I don't think we'll ever have any kind of war on U.S. soil. I'm surprised that 9/11 didn't lead to that.../shrug |

Mostly disagree, I'm not a fan of preventing a war at home by going to war some where else but there were reasons for initially going over (even though it isn't a valid reason anymore). I think we need to find a way to work out of it and rebuild our own nations economy, schools, and help lessen the gap between the social class standings and the rapidly disappearing middle class. Just my thoughts, I like the question.
-WW II was different, the entire world was fighting one target, not a one-on-one battle to the death. |

I disagree. The terrorists weren't there when we got there, we created them to an extent. Also, there are always going to be crazy people in the world and there will always be people who want to harm people to attain their political and religious goals. Well, to put it plainly, there will always be terrorism. |

it would be good to remember that they're already set on destroying us. |

That is just plain stupid, we're shadow boxing with a "war on terror" but if we pull out of Iraq now or before we have eliminated the "enemy" in Iraq the Iraqi's will ultimately loose and a new dictator will take over the country, and believe me the new dictator will draw us back into Iraq to finish the job, he won't wait for us to declare war he will attack us right here and all of you pacifists that think we can just leave an unsettled battle field will be crying when you get your draft orders or an Iraqi militant kidnaps your family or burns down your neighborhood. |

why is american lives so much more valuable than Iraqi lives?
is it because you guys are white? or because you guys are rich?
no. its because you are greedy and have no humanity whatsoever.
why is america so obsessed with 9/11?
are americans even aware of dozens ; probably hundreds of such dates america has caused to several countries around the world???
isnt it ironic that suicide bombings LITERALLY didn't exist as early as even 50 yrs ago... it only began when the west started messing with islamic countries... and worse, america degraded Islam for their own benefit.
America will cause problems to the world as long as it refuses to look beyond its own interests.
America will be remembered.... only for the wrong reasons. And that my friend... is nothing to be proud about. |

Disagree, but if I had a choice of where I would fight I would much rather fight in the mountains of Afghanistan than in NYC any day of the week. |

I disagree.
I think that it is up to law enforcement and the intelligence community to make sure that they are broken up and their plans are thwarted before they get over here. That is their job. Tony Blair used the same argument for supporting Bush on Iraq, yet somehow, they are having to fight them in England and Iraq and Afghanistan. I guess that tanked that idea. Also, the Prime Minister of Spain tried the same argument, but changed his mind after he realized that he cannot match force with force against an unseen foe.
The fact is America is not preventing anything by fighting the war in Iraq. We are only perpetuating an anti-American desire and giving them more troops and resources to fight with. We must learn to be cunning and quiet through intelligence. That will give the outward appearance that America is a peaceful nation yet we will still be able to track and stop any terrorist threats against us. |

I must agree that anyone in support for the War, (unless you have stock and/or corporate interest in the defense sector) has been subject to the simple propaganda of this administration.
Easily, this is the biggest blunder in World History, but yet we still have some who mummer "there is a threat" etc. Our government has done a masterful job on the people (subjects) of this once great nation |

I think it is true in the short term but in the long term we create anti American sentiments that indefinitely make us the mark for future terrorism
and the truth is we can't hold an act that is so easy to execute forever |

you guys are idiots. your country causes more trouble than its solves.
you should just BUTT OUT of the fighting all together and focus on aiding people who need it instead of increasing your 'defense force' budget.
the terrorist who attacked you are an extremist muslim sect who are NOT supported in any way by mainstream muslims and who do NOT act in accordance to the islamic faith...
so why are you punishing the whole country?

I agree slightly but often wonder wouldn't it be easier to just keep "them" out?
9/11 never would've never happened if a few terrorists who were here illegally on expired visas would've been tracked down and booted out when those visas expired.
Security should begin at home not on foreign soil. |

disagree to an extent. We need to not only stop the war, but get out of the middle east all together. They just hate the western influence. |

Killing doesn't bring peace.
Lack of war is not peace.
We have to fix this by other means that don't involve killing. If the US is afraid of terrorists killing Americans, then improve security. Is Saddam dead? Yes. But are people still getting killed? Yes. Not to mention the fact that no one's found Osama, and the US have been on a search for WMD's that don't seem to exist.
EDIT: wazzup, are you trying to say that terrorists are planning on taking over the world? Don't compare Iraq to Nazi Germany. It's the stupidest comparrison ever. |

Disagree,
Those who attacked us on 9/11 was Saudi Arabians, those are our supposed allies. Using Iraq as a battle ground is wrong in so many ways i wont list. Everyone should know by now Al Quaeda wasnt in Iraq until we was. The majority of those who dont like the US dont have the means to come here, unless they try a military invasion, and that would be a big mistake.
Its like the saying goes offense sells tickets, defense win games. We are definately not defending America by being in Iraq, our southern border is open. Mexico cant even stop mexicans from coming over, how they gon stop well armed terrorist. Whom may i add live in deserts, they can get into America easy. The people we are fighting in Iraq fight us cause we are still there. Lebanon is a good example, same situation, after we left suicide bombings stopped. Iraqis are much more well equiped to deal with Iraqi situations than we are.
I would rather have them come here to fight us, they would lose quick.
If we keep fighting in the middle east, we can look forward to more wars from the next generation, then the next. We are breeding hate, the best idea is to get our nation off oil all together. We dont need the middle east, let them have thier piddly squables. |

war is never the answer. we should let iran have all the oil. we don't need it., all we have to do is elect a democrat and all the cars will run off of water. obama will mandate it. then he can print more money and give everyone free health care. we don't need oil. i can ride the bus. the farrmer can pull his plows with horses, and goods can be shipped on covered wagons. |

There were no Al Qaeda in Iraq prior to or after 9/11/01. Also, there were no Al Qaeda in Iraq 5 years ago when we invaded. If anything, the Iraq war has helped Al Qaeda in recruiting MORE terrorists. None of the Al Qaeda currently in Iraq would have the means to plan or carry out an attack on US soil.
Millions of illegal immigrants have come into the U.S. via the Mexican border since 9/11/01. In what way does the war in Iraq deter Al Qaeda from sneaking into the USA through Mexico?
I believe that most Americans understand that the war in Iraq is not about terrorism. Hopefully they will begin to understand what it is about and vote for the candidates who will bring our troops home so they can protect our country from terrorism. |

Disagree. The "terrorists" are not a cohesive group of people. They're a bunch of different groups, with their own interests. I think people who make that statement are simpletons. Most of the Iraqi rebels are nationalists, and have no ability to make their way to the USA. These people are using recycled mortar shells to make bombs - I don't think they can manage bombers and battleships. The only international organization is al-Qaeda, and they're not terribly popular in Iraq now. |
|

That's purely a scare tactic to rally the public into supporting the war. If we had enough troops to protect our homeland- they would actually be here to fight off any invading enemy if the problem did indeed arise. |

Disagree. Who is they? What makes you think "they" are not already here. Our border security stinks. The government has no idea how many people are here and from what country they are coming from. For every person that is killed in Iraq there will be 5 more people willing to take his place. Can you really defeat someone who is already willing to die for their cause. We are protecting the oil . How about the troops coming home and protecting us here. I have a relative who in the military in McAllen, TX on the border and it is total chaos. Don't be naive and think that just because there is a war going in the middle east that every thing is alright. The same underground tunnel at the the northern and southern borders don't only allow drugs, Canadian and Mexicans to flow in. False security. We need to get serious about protecting the homeland. |
