How long does it take to get your first paycheck from the Army, at Basic Training?
Find answers to your legal question.

How long does it take to get your first paycheck from the Army, at Basic Training?

My fiance has been at Basic for 3 weeks. We share a bank account which his paychecks will be direct deposited into so that I can pay our mutual bills. Does anyone have an idea about how long it could take for him to get his first paycheck?
Also, any ideas about what he may need, and what he is allowed to recieve, while he is still going through Basic?

I mailed my husband a giant box with shampoo, sunblock, tissues, hand sanitizer, soap, band-aids, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, laundry detergent, paper, pens, envelopes, stamps, and TONS of pictures. He asked for new pictures pretty much every week, so I'm assuming that would be the best thing to send? He LOVED getting a package from me, even if it was stuff he could have purchased at the PX. Even though it was just toiletries, he was absolutely thrilled over them. The drill sergeant let him keep everything, so I know it's safe to send stationary and toiletries.

He's not allowed to receive anything exciting-- no food, candy, books, cds, clothing, etc. Your fiance should be sending you his address very shortly, and on that paper it will show you what he is allowed to get and what is prohibited. Stick to the list, or else he could risk pissing off the DS and getting your entire package taken away.

As for the pay, it took FIVE WEEKS before my husband's pay was deposited into his account, and I've heard of people having it take up to SIX weeks. My advice is to not expect it for at least six weeks, so if it comes before that you won't be disappointed. I wish the recruiter had told me about it beforehand so I could have prepared and budgeted for the lack of income, but oh well.

Good luck!!!

He'll get paid the 1st and the 15th, just send him letters he'll be able to buy supplies at the PX.

Well, it all depends on when his direct deposit form was put into the system. It was probably in a stack with several hundred other recruits paperwork so it may have been several days before it was processed meaning it was put to the next billing cycle. Generally people should expect to wait 30 days before receiving their first paycheck and if it comes early then it's a pleasant surprise. Of course, they (the army) will take money out for "non-issue" things from the PX such as razors, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc... so don't expect it to be very large.

As for what he is allowed to receive i suppose the best idea is to ask him what he wants and can receive. Just make sure that it isn't anything that will bring him any "special" attention from the drill sergeants.

Hope this helps!

He will be paid on the 1st and 15th of the month. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get that first paycheck though. It should be there soon.

He was issued everything he will need in basic. Just send him letters unless he tells you otherwise. Nothing too embarrassing either. Sometimes the letters are read outloud to the whole group. No boxes - unless he asks you for something specifically.

military pay is usually the first and 15 of month.
what he needs is usually supplied to him.
think you could send cookies and other treats.

He will be getting his paycheck while in Basic. He has to pay for his hygiene gear and cleaning supplies for cleaning the barracks. Those don't come free! Also, he will be paying for his uniforms, but they will stipend his paycheck for that. He will be paid on the 1st and 15th of every month. Howerver, if he is overseas, he will get paid a day before those dates, due to the international date line.

Once he is finished with Basic Training, he will get his dependent pay, which you will be recieving. It will be receive immediately, as long you are enrolled in DEERS. If you don't see any money after the 2nd to 3rd week, then he better march to the Admin and start some sparks!

Pay is recieved the 1st and 15th of each month.

My boyfriend has been at basic now for around 3 weeks also.

He got his first paycheck Aug 1.

Has your fiance been gone 3 weeks or actually in training for 3 weeks? that kinda makes a difference also.

But check on the 15th of this month!

Im thinking you should have it by then.

And on the sending stuff, do not send any food or treats. You can send like soap and deodorant. But your package cant be any larger than a shoebox. Atleast that is how it is at Fort Leonard Wood
