Of course. Your experience sounds very unusual. Blacks have lived in the UK for 200 years. |

Of course. What about the black Spice Girl? |

f*** immigrants who call themselves british. it is in theory, but lets face it. it is not. simply being black means you are a migrant to britain from 1960s onwards. british is english, scottish, and welsh. not anglo-pakistani or afro- british, or whatever s***ty terms they put on indentity forms. |

Your problem, and your kids problem, and your great, great, great grandkids problem, will always be the same. There are right wing morons in this country who think you can't be British if you're not white.
Born here? British. Born here of parents born here. British.
That's how I deal with it; it's that simple. |

racism is all over, my dear. |

I was just in England, and mosty of the urban parts are as ethnically diverse as the U.S., if not more so. And I don't just mean non white minorities either. Poles, Greeks, Italians. SO whether some people like it or not, the answer to your question is yes. |

If you were born in England, you're British. It doesn't matter what colour you are. |

Then those people are extremely ignorant. Of course you can be of Caribbean descent and be British! You can be of Caribbean descent and ethnicity and still be American, Chinese, French, Brazilian, Algerian, etc... The only reason they say things is for the obvious-your skin is brown and you look like you would be from somewhere say, Africa. But they obviously don't understand that ethnicity and descendant has nothing to do with citizenship.
Ignorance surprises you? I wish I was you, because ignorance doesn't surprise me anymore though I wish it did. |

momma of 2 :)

Yes, it is. My midwife is black and British...born and raised until she moved to the states 11 years ago. |

well, you will always be black. i expect in these times of population shift there are some rootless fecks whom get jealous of you.
think about it, if your polish or ukrainian etc all you have is your language, once that is gone you are no longer polish, ukrainian.
i don't know a lot about black british history but i do know its a lot longer than from the 1950s.
anyway the world is full of ignorant people, sometimes they can be enlightened othertimes its just not worth it. |

If you were born in Britain, then your NATIONALITY is automatically British.
People tend to confuse RACE with NATIONALITY. |

I thank God I am white. Your question distresses me that your
family have been here so long, yet people see you as a 'foreigner
although you are third generation.
You will find thru your sojorn in life that you will meet this sort of thing.' Anybody that says we don't want you or don't need you
here is a bigot. This is not the opinion of the majority of the UK,
just the sad few. |

If you are integrated into the British culture (as you obviously are) then in my book you're British.
It does catch some people unawares though, I was in Iraq working with S. African security staff and drove into Shaiba Logistic base, the British Soldier on the gate was Black and the S Africans were gobsmacked that he had the same accent as me! (He was from Cardiff)
As for me;
I'm British by Birth - as you are.
Welsh by the grace of god - only some of us are lucky enough.
and European - over my dead body! |
