No you should not join without your parents blessing. If you are not 18.
So when you turn 18 and graduate HS go sign up and do it in the summer. I like the heat better than the cold and rain! Especially for the Crucible when you are awake for 72 hours straight. Better to be hot than huddled in the cold and rain and endure that!

Try to level with your mother and make her see your reasons for joining. If she doesn’t come around and you’re still good to go, join.
Many go through this type of situation and have to either convince our loved ones or go through it without their support. Fortunately, I was the former, but I would have gone on without them if they didn’t change their minds.
As for best time to go to PI… I would say fall would probably be the best if you want a slightly easier time, but, regardless, they’re not going to make it any easier for you whenever you go.
Best of luck and see you in the fleet. |

First think about if you really want to join. I was in the military, not the marines, and it was terrible for me. I went in only because I didn't know what else to do with my life and it was such a mistake so make sure it's what you really want. If I was your mother I wouldn't want you going either, this is a dangerous time to join the military. |

As a parent with adult aged and teenage children, it is difficult to let go of the children. Parents have protected their children, provided and watched their children grow. It is not easy to let a child make a decision such as this but parents have to let go of their children at some point.
I recommend you speak with your mother since you want her blessing. It will make it easier for her to let you go if she gives her blessing. If you are 18 or older, the choice is yours but you want to depart the nest under good terms, especially with your mother. Explain to her the good points, how you will become responsible, mature, provide for yourself. Explain how you will continue your education. Talk to her about your healthcare and how it is provided along with dental care. Set her up with email if she isn’t using it, explain you will call often and give her updates. Leave her a contact list so she can notify of you of any family emergencies.
The bottom line, parents care and it is not easy to let go. Parents will still be watching over you even when you are in your mid forties. It is a natural reaction to having children. So, it is for you to decide but I don’t recommend you hide it from her. Make sure you keep her informed on your status. |

even if your mom doesnt want you to, it is your life.
if you really want to be a Marine, then you have to, regardless of what other people think.
but you should also talk to your mom about why she doesnt want you to be a Marine. her support will mean a lot to you later |

I'm not in the military, but I'd say this is a big thing. Get your mothers approval, she'd be crushed if you just left. If you join, be safe. |

The best time to go might have to be when you are a legal adult. I had more debates than I could count with my dad about going to the Marines and he'd always come up with some terrifying boot camp story to try and scare me into not going. it was only when I turned 18 that I could finally sign up for it without is consent. now I'm a delayed entry, I'll be leaving for Maine's Boot Camp March of 2008. what new Marines have told me, the best time is spring...the weather is somewhat cool but at least your not sweating in the dry heat.
what do have to do when the instructor says "POSITIONS!"? |

your mom is probably worried about your safety so I think that's why she's not willing to accept that, but if you're an adult already and that's your dream go ahead and sign off. :) take care and talk to your mom about this. Explain to her the reasons why you want to participate on that. They actually get in touch with the sea, a nice place to live, excellent training and they learn lots of positive things such as bravery and discipline...one of my uncle's used to be in the US navy. |

Yes you should go! Our parents just dont want us to get hurt. No one wants family to get hurt. I joined myself, and depart in 2 days! Parris Island here I come! OOH-RAH!!!! |

Wait until you turn 18 then you do not need your mom's permission. As PI goes I wouldn't know. I went to San Diego. |

One of the first things you will be taught in boot camp is to respect and listen to your parents. You should work WITH them on such a big decision. If you really want to join you should work hard to sell them on the idea of you joining. Consider it your first mission to be a marine to convince your mom that you should join and help bolster our fighting force and how much you will get out of it as a person to grow and become an even stronger person and the skills you will learn and the dedication honor and pride you will learn while being a marine. Just make sure you go over the reasons for yourself on why you want to become a marine and join only for the right reasons. |

You have your life and your mom has hers.
Get a certified copy of your birth certificate now as well as your Social Security Card and drivers license. Then when you turn 18 you can enlist in the Marines without your mom.
Thousands of military people do this every year. Parents don't have to agree with your life choices, but being a Marine is nothing to be ashamed of. Just wait till you are 18 and go for it.
The east coast gets very hot and very humid so fall and spring would be ideal unless you like being a million degrees hot all day and all night long. |

WELL, IF YOU WANT TO BE A MARINE! ARE YOU, ALWAYS GOING TO DO WHAT YOUR MOTHER SAYS? SECONDLY, BOOTCAMP IN THE SUMMER AND WINTER IS BRUTAL! TIME IT FOR SPRING OR FALL, THEN YOU MIGHT JUST MAKE IT!! GOOD LUCK!!!!! |

If every soldier waited for their moms permission there would be no recruits at all. If you are 18 you can go when you want to. South Carolina can be quite hot in the Summer. The south is best in the Spring or fall , it's so pretty. |

Why do you want to join? You have to understand your mothers side of it, but also, depending on your age, she has to understand your reasoning. Depending on your reasons for wanting to go, Id talk to her and explain your feelings with her. No mother wants her son to go, atleast not now. |

If you are of age (18+), it is your decision. I was 20 when I went off to boot camp in August, whew, what a hot month! If I had to do it all over again, I would go in the Spring and hope there wouldn't be too much rain. Well, it will rain most seasons but you will have it over with and go on with the routines set forty by the branch of your choosing. |

The Marines are looking for a few good MEN. That's the key word. Are you a man or a mama's boy? Go in in the winter. The summer is too hot. Remember, you can always put on more clothes to keep warm, but you can only take off so much to keep cool. |

I arrived on a cool March evening and left on a warm June morning.
It was a pleasant little vacation. We got a chance to visit the barber shop. We went clothes shopping. We got a chance to do ti-bo and pilates and other fat-burning exercises. We ate wonderful gourmet meals. We go to go sport shooting. We got a chance to go swimming and rope climbing.
Our tour guides were very knowledgeable - there wasn't a single thing we ever asked that they didn't have a difinitive answer for. And there was good ol' Uncle Sam, who actually paid us and made us feel welcome at wonderful, tropical Parris Island.
Either wait for your mom to come around to the idea, or wait until you're 18. It's a solid job, but remember, we're at "war", and you could really get hurt. |

Why did you want to know the best season? It's not like you're gonna get 'tanning' time on the patio or anything. You don't need your mommy's permission if you are 18 and a high school graduate. You have to graduate high school or have a GED to enlist in the Marines. |

first be very sure you want to go, I went when I was 17 in 1966 and it was the best thing I ever did in my life. My parents were against it but I told them it's what I truly wanted,(they still had the draft). Remember once a Marine always a marine Semper Fi |

If you're 18 and you are a man, make your own way.
If you're a boy, do what Mom tells you.
There is NEVER a good time at Parris Island. |

Don't do it just to spite her. If you really want to do it explain that to her and she may understand but if you want to join you are old enough to make that decision. |
