How can I dispose of railway explosive charges?
Find answers to your legal question.

How can I dispose of railway explosive charges?

We have a box of about 20 railway explosive charges.. these are strapped to a railway line so when the train goes over they explode and alert railway workers that a train is approaching. The police were unable to offer a solution, who can we call? Obviously we dont want to just dump them at the tip, as if the entire box was to go off at once, we dont know what could happen.

To dispose of explosives, you need to find someone in your city or state that holds a blasting explosives user’s license and contact him or her................

You might try the state National Guard (or a military base, if you have one near you). They gotta either have someone (or know someone) that deals with explosives. If it's newer charges, soaking it in water won't do any good!

Railway detonators (torpedos) are indeed explosive devices and should be handled with extreme care. Any of these charges I have seen are completely water proof, so soaking them in water will do absolutely NOTHING. I do not understand why the Police would do nothing. This is part of their job. Try the Fire Brigade. Buddy of mine and myself found a 1/2 dozen or so of the once and secured them to fence posts. Since we were out hunting groundhogs we used them for target practise with our .22 caliber rifles. We stood too close to the first one and got sprayed with burning powder and waterproof canvas when we hit it and the sound almost deafened us both. (Stupid Kids) . NOT RECOMMENDED.

Call the STATE Police...ask to speak to someone in the BOMB Disposal Unit and explain the situation. You could also try looking up Demolition Companies in your area or even any form of local Military.

the best thing to do would be to soak the entire box in water this will make the explosives less active then the next best thing to do would be to bury them .. however my personal opinion is just to have a bit of fun with them.. let them off!
