How dangerous is being hit by a slow-moving car?

Let's say the car is moving at 20mph. How bad would the damage be if someone got hit by it? Any long-term injuries? In that case what kind of speed would result in a relatively "safe" hit? 5-10mph?

Coastcowboy
Most vehicle accidents occur under 15 mph. A 20 mph collision does a HUGE amount of damage to a car, a 30 mph crash destroys it. Lot's of people tell me that their car was hit by another going 60 mph with only nominal damage to the vehicle. I just have to laugh to myself, thinking that I would be talking to a ghost it that were ture. As for injuries, who knows? If the occupant were seated firmly in a modern vehicle seat and properly belted in then the chances of real injury will be very small. If the person were slumped to one side, head turned, yaking on a cell phone and the seat belts sagging off their shoulder, then there will be a much higher risk of soft tissue damage and muscle strain.

lets see....1500 pound car at 20 mph. that's a hell of alot of force comin ur way, and when it connects, it isnt gonna be good. a motorcycle is constructed alot stronger than the human body, but that bike will become tinfoil on impact. the mere flick of a fender at 40 will kill u on impact. an impact at 20 mph from a motorcycle that weighs half that of a car could do some serious damage. u will get seriously hurt if a cage smacks u at 20 mph.

chevy_man_rob
there is no real answer for a safe impact. i am sure we all have read the stories of .... "man ejected from car at 60 mph and lives uninjured" and then the flip side ... "man killed in parking lot accident". exact answer....who knows? each situation is different.

UCANTCME
A VEHICLE TRAVELING 20 MPH THAT WEIGHS 4-TONS, BROKEN LEGS, BACK, PELVIS, INTERNAL DAMAGES, EXTERNAL DAMAGES AND THE LIST GOES ON. AS FOR LONG TERM, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, IT WILL HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH THE PERSON AS WELL.

Game OVER
R u kidding...? If u were in another car when that car hit you it wouldn't cause any injury but would bang up your car though. hey why dont u "Try it at home"....? Just joking!
