Just a quick question?

I live on a small residential street in a small town and people drive really fast down my road. I, like many of my neighbors, have young children. I was wondering if anyone knows what government office I would need to contact about having either a stop sign or one of those "please drive slowly we love our children" signs put up on my street.

Your local Municipal office, Borough, Township or County ... based on where you live.

I would contact your mayor or whoever runs your city. They would be able to make the decision to put up a sign.

Your representative in the local government. Township commisioner, councilman, etc.

In most cities, the Chief of Police is in charge of the warrant studies and the placement of stop signs or crosswalks. Good luck with that, sometimes your neighbors may disagree with your plight to improve safety for pedestrians, just be forewarned about that one.

go to the town meeting and let them know your concern

Call the local news and ask them to do a story about it and they'll ask the local police for questions about it.

Usually contacting the council wont get you anywhere, you should do what a local did in UK. The kids at the Primary school in the village did an organised protest, invited the newspaper and the local radio station.
The council got wind of it and slowed the road to 20mph and slapped a camera on it, and those flashing signes saying slow down.

The most probable solution to this problem is speed bumps...Start a petition...Check with your local government to see what format or forms you need...Then take it around to the neighbors and have all the registered voters sign the document...Followup by attending town meetings and asking about the status of your request...The town council seems to always pay attention to what the voters want...Complain to the cop shop as well - loud and long.

All the best.

contact your alderman. they will put a speed limit sign up. they may even dispatch a patrol officer to do radar enforcement. we had the same problem. make it a high profile concern. get your neighbors together and hold up signs that read SLOW DOWN, during the busy drive times.

You just call your local police department and they will start to monitor this situation very quickly.
